Apparently there aren't that many pure Hawai'ians left in Hawai'i. One of the tour guides gave me the figure of some 2000 in all of Hawai'ian islands put together. I am not sure if this man is pure Hawai'ian. But then he had the hallmarks of a Hawai'ian no doubt - he was friendly, relaxed and taking life one day at a time.

We were driving from West Maui to Hana on the famous Hana Highway and we stopped at one of the waterfalls to take in the scenery and that's where I met him. There he was, weaving baskets and hats with coconut palm leaves. It was the craft that attracted me to him. Back home in India during my childhood, we used to make similar stuff from coconut palms too. Hence the curiosity. When he became aware that I was taking pictures of him, he turned around and greeted me with an "Aloha" and this beautiful smile. I responded with an Aloha, took more picures and said "Mahalo" to thank him. Mahalo Hawaiian Man!!

I like your collection from Hawaii. Nice tight cropping on this image - you must have gift for putting people at ease. He doesn't seem 'put-off' at all.
