A surfer rides the waves on the North Shore of O'ahu Island, Hawai'i.

The town in which this picture was taken is called Hale'iwa, but it's not the only surfing spot along North Shore, which boasts several of the world-renowned surfing destinations such as a Sunset Beach and the Banzai Pipeline.

Here, surfing lore is made. Surfing competitions are held here every winter, when the swell is highest. (Unfortunately on this day I visited the water was fairly calm.)

The Fox Network TV show North Shore was filmed in the area, as were the last few seasons of Baywatch. ABC's Lost is also filmed on Oʻahu. Much of it is filmed on the North Shore although other areas on Oʻahu are also used. The North Shore was also the setting for the movies North Shore, and Blue Crush, as well as being fictionalized for the animated film Surf's Up.

Hi there,

Really good pic, it's difficult to take this kind of pics isn't it ???

I like the difference between the first blue with the backgroud blue

Hello,
I wish it was summer now. This is a very dynamic picture.
Best wishes
Elif

Here it's snowing and it's damn cold and there people are enjoying sun and life, gosh that's not fair isn't it.
Your image is a common thing to see on tv, but I've never seen it as a photograph here on TE, good catch!

Very nice photo.

Great shot!
Very well captured, with good focus and sharp details. I like the way you positioned the rider in the frame, whether taking it or by cropping, it doesn't matter, he's in the right spot. And you got a great bit of sunlight to fall on is body. I really like the two blues of the water, too. Very dynamic picture, well taken.
Regards and best wishes for 2008,
Andrew
