[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Watching the sun rise over the Hawai'i Islands is a spectacular event doesn't matter where you do it from. But, doing so from the top of the Haleakala is something special. Perched on top of this volcano at some 10,000 ft., the colors are just fantastic. In order to capture the sunrise, I left the comforts of my hotel at 2:45am and took a tour bus that took us all the way to the top. It was extremely windy that morning that I had difficulty keeping my tripod standing. To add to that, the temperature was way below zero.

We had a blanket of clouds below us which was all dark and as the sun came up, they turned golden orange catching the early rays. It was a sight to die for!!!

Another great one - wouldlike to see more of your sunrises. Two questions - how do you meter for such shots? My sunsets never come outthis well. Also, When at this location, how much useful shooting time did you have? Great shot!
