This is a Silversword plant. They live in the middle of Haleakala Crater in Maui. Its fine silver hairs give it an interesting sheen that changes depending on the viewing direction.
The plants average 12" across. When the fronds fall off they dry up they become shimmery and silver coloured. |

Nice image Mike. Looking at this plant staight on, it's hard to know it's shape, but the shadow really helps to define this more. The contrast between the Sliver Sword and the volcanic environment in which this plant grows makes for a truly dramatic image. Great shot. David

Very nice capture and good contrast between the white tips of the plant and the ultra black shade. You should have posted this one in TrekNature I suggest.
