[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Kilauea has been erupting continuously since 1983. It is a shield volcano with more than one crater. It is my understanding that as the Pacific Plate moves northwestward,(see my note on my Haleakala post)eruptions make new craters; at the moment eruptions are coming along the East Rift of the volcano and out into the sea.(If my understanding is wrong, please feel free to correct me) We did 2 walks here: down into the Iki crater, across and out the other side, and the next day we walked part of the crater rim and across the caldera, passing the Halema'uma'u crater on the Halema'uma'u Trail. This photo was taken early morning from the back of the hotel, looking over the crater. Later in the day the steam is not as noticable.

It's another dramatic shot Kath,

The shot puzzles me a bit, is the red at the top lava? If it is, the photo doesn't quite hit me as strongly as the view must have been to see. It's still a good shot though.

Fantastic shot Kath, It's dangeruos in Volcano area.

Wow, Kath, a great POV. I have just flown over Kilauea in a plane and was so sick from the thermal updrafts that I barely saw it (my head was in a bag!!). This is really gorgeous.

Spectacular Picture Kath!
Impressed me very much.

Lovely image Kath, great colours the white at the top of the image is a little distracting and I've cropped it in a workshop. The image is still great though, I am being picky well done!!

So much going on on this image, though it looks very simple. Great capture!

Thank you, Kath, for this odd picture...
One first see some mist which appears to be volcano steam... later we notice that what seemed to be the red sky is indeed the reflection of the sun on the moutain...
Very nice image anyway
