Riding The Outlaw Trail...
This one is for Butch.
A follow-up to my previous post... shortly before sunset on the Cimarrons, way up from Ridgway, in the Silver Jack area.
Now, something about Butch Cassidy, born Robert Leroy Parker ((April 13, 1866 - circa November 6, 1908) who for more than a decade rode The Outlaw Trail from Canada to Mexico, and specialized in holding up trains & robbing banks without ever killing a man or robbing an individual.
Born in Beaver, Utah, to Maximilian Parker and Ann Campbell Gillies, English and Scottish Mormon immigrants, who came to the Utah Territory in the late 1850s, he grew up on his parents' ranch in Dog Valley, near Circleville, north of Panguitch and not too far from Bryce Canyon. It's basically a little ways off 89 Hwy.
I've been there last year, but both my lithium batteries (the one in the camera and the spare one) turned out to be empty after heavy-shooting at Bryce. Lots of 4-letter words flying around that day...

Butch left home during his early teens, and while working at a dairy farm, he fell in with Mike Cassidy, a horse thief and cattle rustler. He subsequently worked at several ranches in addition to a brief stint as a butcher in Rock Springs, Wyoming, when he acquired the nickname "Butch", to which he soon added the surname Cassidy in honor of his old friend and mentor.
He continued to do ranch work until 1884 when he briefly moved to Telluride, Colorado, ostensibly to find work but possibly to deliver stolen horses to buyers there. He then returned to ranch work, in Wyoming and in Montana, before returning again to Telluride in 1887, where he met Matthew Warner, owner of a race horse. Together the two raced the horse at various events, dividing the profits.
Through this line of enterprise he soon met, again in Telluride, William and Thomas McCarty, who may have been instrumental in introducing Parker to the ideas and strategies of train and bank robbery.
The same trio, together with an unknown fourth man, was responsible for the robbery on June 24, 1889, of the San Miguel Valley Bank in Telluride, where they stole approximately $21,000, after which they fled to the Robbers Roost, a remote hideout in southeastern Utah.
The building formerly hosting the San Miguel Bank still stands, and it's a couple houses from the Sheridan Hotel, on Telluride's Main Street. Been there too, and took pictures in Sept. 1996 and Aug. 2000. Nothing worth posting, and they'd need to be scanned anyway, but I threw my scanner out of the window a long time ago. And I mean : literally.

it's impossible not to check this photo. Colorful and attractive. Great light management...and that tree on the right is what makes this scene well balanced. Great work indeed!

Hi Fulvio,

A very pleasant composition! But at the same time I really have to get used to the heavy saturation. At some points, it feels a bit unnatural and perhaps overdone. Also when looking at the edges of the trees (especially in the greens) in the foreground, it does feel a bit overly sharpened.
But I do like the composition with the lone tree, blue skies and the light hitting the rock. I just think it would have felt more natural if the saturation and edge sharpness would be a bit more timid ;-).

Die hoge boom in de voorgrond geeft er iets krachtigs aan waardoor wij neit meteen naar achteren worden getrokken anar het rode en blauwe geweld. De kleuren zijn nog steeds Velvia groen, zo mag ik ze graag zien. Mooie doorkijk vanuit een gebied waar ik nog nooit geweest ben.

..... !!!! ...... the light here! THE COLOURS!!! I absolutely love this, there's something primal in this scene, probably the unpoluted and clear greens and blues. and as if the colours were not enough, you've composed the photo to leave everyone green with envy :)) great use of layers and that one tree on the left, just great :)

on voit bien que cette photo est abondememt retravaillée en posst processing, mais le résultat est très séduisant. Les couleurs sont intenses et les lumières impressionnantes.
Le choix de la scène est aussi judicieux.

I am proud to be mentioned in your outstanding notes again! "Butch" is taking a break from robbing banks at the moment and doing the mundane task of washing four loads of laundry. We are a gentlemanly bandits, not barbarbarians like the scum in the movie "3:10 to Yuma" (I think that the Russell Crowe character was relieved to get those psychopaths out of his hair by the end of the movie). This Colorado scenic of yours is just fabulous! The fact that Kristine raves about it is VERY high praise indeed! I can't put it any better than she did. An outstanding work of art! I am sure learning a lot from you amazing Dutch photographers!

Eventjes een stap naar de andere kant van de wereld.
Maar ook daar zijn mooie zichten te vinden volgens ik hier kan zien.
De kleur is stevig maar wel aangenaam om naar te kijken.
De rotsen achter de groene gordel past mooi aan naar de blauwe hemel toe.

Your travel plans sound great, by the way - I'm planning a similar trip (also my first time to Grand Teton and Yellowstone) but for September or October. Can't wait...

Fulvio, another nice one. I want you to know that most often I get bored looking at a series of similar shots (tho I am not going to mention which ones) but so far have not gotten bored with yours. That said your greens and earth tone reds are constantly but subtly changing and your compositions are always good. I often wonder why I can't manage as many good photos from a trip as you do. This all leads me to my belabored point... since I don't get bored with your shots I have to keep searching for why that is because there in lies the secret to a good shot. Fine capture as always.

This is a very lovely photo. The red cliffs rise dramatically over the aspen forest. I like the way you composed the one aspen on the left. The yellows may be just a bit over saturated, but the rest of the colors look great. This looks like a place I'd like to visit someday.

I can "smell" Colorado, it comes over right away with your beautiful photo! I love the red stone against the dark blue sky and how the aspen trees reach for the sun and that you use the carpet of yellow-green grass in the foreground. I am ready ... to go! I am there before you, but you have the advantage that you can learn from my photo mistakes :) Maybe I show them in September ... after you return ... just kidding. I had an email this moring (from Colorado) saying: "I wish I could send you some of this beautiful sunshine and 100-mile visibility! In the meantime, you can look forward to some beautiful flying days in our high desert!" ... we complained about the weather and this was her answer. If the oil prices get any higher we might stay grounded and enjoy the sky from the campground ... Barbara.

Stunning light, great clarity of color, & wonderful detail in this well-framed compo. I love the towewring red rocks framed by the lacy green of the aspen. The whispy detail of the clouds is a read bonus.

A nice shot where the red stony rocks and the green of the trees make a nice contrast.
It's so quiet and it's sounds strange that it should be a scene of egorged people.

not that your dutch shots aren't good, but any shot from the US Southwest is a spoil that I just can't miss. Especially when it has these high contrast colors as you are presenting here. Man, this is to good to be true! The entire image pops out of my screen and for a moment I have the impression of not sitting at work but being in the middle of Colorado wilderness.
