[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This dance photograph is hot off the press. I just downloaded it from my compact flash card and did a fast edit. This was a performance by the Denver based Folklorico and Flamenco dance group called Fiesta Colorado that I was asked to photograph tonight. I will eventually do a series about this amazing dance group. Dance photography is very intense and takes a lot of concentration, just ask Shelly O'Brien (AROBN54). After tonight's performance I couldn't focus my eyes very well and my wife had to drive home. I have astigmatism and staring into the camera intensely for three hours does this to me.

I have another dance performance to shoot tommorrow with the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Group. Dance is a "feast or famine" business and would drive an 8 to 5 person crazy. I will be behind on my critiques for a few days and I will not be able to post another photo for at least a few days. I would like to apply to be a rich person, but the applications are 5,000,000,000,000 to every available position. I will have to juggle my day job with my photography just like the vast majority of the rest of the Trek Earth photographers.

Hello Stan,
A very nice composition on this one.
I like the attitude of all 4 dancers and the expression they have on their faces; The rich colors of these beautiful costumes make the shot very attractive. I think I jsut would have reworked the floor a little bit to make it darker and avoid the scracthes that distract my attention.
I wish you all the best for your next days of shooting.
Have a nice weekend.
Best regards, Christian

Hi Stan,

Another brilliant moment in time. All the technicals look spot on but it is the balance I enjoy here. I find I am engaged in a visual dance myself gently moving back and forth between the more fluid and brightly colored ladies to the more subdued postures and tones of the men. Even the facial expressions echo this relationship. Quite nicely done - I'd never have the patience :)

Cheers!

Bob G.

Hi Stan,
beautiful lively shot again. I would love to be there and hear all the stamping.
Good luck with your job.
Best regards
Romana

Bonjours,

Hi Stan.
Just read your interesting note. Fortunately, I don't have a regular day job and can often go off for a drive when the weather is right for a few photos.
The colour of the lady's dress is truly spectacular, and you 'stopped' the action at a perfect moment to catch the dress spread the way it is. The four dancers are in nicely balanced positions and the shot is really sharp. I tend to agree with Christian about the possible benefits of cloning out some of the marks on the floor.
Hope to see some more dance shots soon.
Regards,
Andrew

Hi Stan,
The thumbnail was alerady very colorful, but this in the large version shows even more. The green and orange in the back are wonderful, what a great exposure. Details must be amazing in the original version. Great pose from the dancers, but also great timing in creating this one...perfect.
Have a nice weekend, Henk

Stan,
Superb colors, incredible sharpness.
This dance catch is great, and very pleasant for the eye.
Regards,
JB.

morning, stan :)

great! the orange, the green against the white and your signature black. perfect timing too catching those flying dresses against the attentive expressions of the male dancers.

good luck with your work endeavours.

warm regards,
kristaps

Oh, man... Just look at those greens and oranges!
Wonderful job once again, Stannie. This is truly a killer compo, everything in it has been taken care of to the smallest details. The positioning and posture of those dancers is a work of art. Lighting, shadowplay and overall definition... TOO! I already damn well knew you are GOOD, but things here seems to be getting a little outta hand... LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
God bless ya, Stannie! Awesome!
Cheers,
Fulvio.

The colours really are remarkable, and the quality is once again top notch. Your timing was impeccable as the dresses swirl. I particularly like the interaction between the couple at the front. With all the stage lighting it can't have been easy to get the exposure correct on the white outfits. Excellent work
Kath

Hi, Stan -

Photographer's Syndrome - you'll get into the history books yet!

Nice to see something hot off the press like this, and very well organized it is too. Great positioning of the people, and the flaring skirt is also well done. I'm also struck by the good quality DOF at that aperture.

Best,
Dan

Great timing Stan. The colours are superb and the exposure spot on. You almost have to know the choreography to know when to shoot. Hey I am one of the 5,000,000,000,000 so get in line.
Phil

Hello Stan, your timing was impeccable. As the eyes take in each dancer they are led round in a circle, an excellent composition.
The floor is necessary to 'ground' them; the scratches do not distract me at all.
The colours and patterns are wonderful.
The dancers certainly look as if they are enjoying themselves.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Hi Stan,
the fan of work is the most important thing!
F/2.8 is a fantastic option that this lens gives to you! So the light is easily handled and the exposure well captured, too. Having the VR in-built, this lens is a fantastic tool for not only professionals but amateurs, too. 1/250 kept the scene frozen! The colours are fantastic as well as the sharpness!
Thank you very much for sharing this kind of your work.
Greetings from Greece,
Athanasios.

Oh, this is a beauty, Stan! Caught at a perfect moment with those wonderfully colorful skirts whirling and I love the look the front two are giving each other. The lighting is awesome and as always you have those mad great colors. The dark BG sets them off perfectly, too. This is just outstanding! (and YES, it's a b**ch trying to photograph dancers). Great job!! Thanks and take good care,
Shelly

Hello Stan! Colorado has not only high altitudes and wonderful sceneries but also one festival after the other as it seems, and it keeps you busy, and gives us wonderful Stan-like colors - as we love it and enjoy it. Oh I am so so happy to receive my beautiful and strong Indian ... (I come back to this ... have to check about the size). Maybe, one day Stan, you find this rich oncle we all dream about sometimes. We had this saying and still have, that one day the "rich oncle from America" will show up no one knew about (hoping to inherit some money). I think it came from the days when Switzerland was rather poor and everybody left for the States after the war and made big dollars. Dreaming is nice, I do it a lot, about different things :)

Oh well, dinner is ready ... have a wonderful Sunday, Barbara.

Hi Stan,
You captured the moment perfectly with a dynamic environment.Fantastic costumes, excellent composition.
Have a nice Sunday:)
Zeynep

A well composed shot, captured at the perfect time. The poses are great from the dancers.

Good color use too!

Hi Stan,
Its always a pleasure to drop by and view another of your "culture" shots. That dress is a real feast for the eyes. A nice symetrical composition though a shame maybe that the background lady is out of view. The colour and detail are great and perfect handling of the light.

Wow! this one is too good for words! Your colors are wonderfully balanced and at the same time vividly clear. You handled the white brilliantly and the exposure is perfect. This one should do you proud.

Hi Stan
Aha, now I see where you are with two BIG dance performances to photograph. I'm glad you're doing something that you love so much and I look forward to viewing your photos when they are available.

You caught both of the women with their skits at full float and amazing detail in thge expressions of the dancwers. For me, those exprerssions are as much a part of the dance as the flying skirts but they are seldom captured so well.

Hello Stan,
Excellent composition with wonderful rich colors. Great expression of the dancers and perfect timing on this shot.
well done my friend
take care

Stan,
I'm amazed! Three hours looking through the viewfinder and waiting for the right moment to release the shutter and that with a camera and lens that get close to 6-7 pounds? Are you a gorila or did you use a monopod or tripod? No wonder that you weren't able to drive afterwards. Even without astigmatism I wouldn't be able to drive anywhere after such an intense event.
The result? The shot? Perfect in any respect and I look forward to see more from this dancing performance, or shall I say shooting performance?

Hallo Stan,

I know very good that make a picture from dance couple is very difficult.
My wife and I dance a lot years, I try regular take picture but it's very difficult.
I wish you a lot congratulation with this fantastic image of this four dancers.
Splendid costumes of the four peoples what a nice sharpness and clarity.
Very well done, thanks for sharing.

Best regards,
John.

Hello Stan -

Wow, you captured that dancer and just the right moment with her skirt fully extended and the look on her face is just perfect. The two front dancers have a perfect connection which is evident with their eye contact and facial expressions. You were spot on with the shutter and the technicals of this image spot on as well. Excellent!!

Thank you for sharing.

hi Stan,
I hope you're doing fine under all that pile of photos you had to process :) but if they are as great as this one, you're probably not complaining.
as with almost all your dance photos, I'd add "decisive moment" as a category - here the woman's flying skirt makes her look like a butterfly spreading wings, wonderful timing! the bright colours against the dark background work well to create a festive mood, I'm sure the dancers are very pleased with this photo. excellent work, my compliments.

with best regards,
Kristine

nice freezed action which speaks volumes of everything related to it being shot
very well executed

Hi Stan, The colours stand-out superbly, this is a well framed picture of these dancers, I love the expressions &, the pleasure the photo brings, a moment to treasure, kind regards Wilson.
