I posted a picture from the annual Hot Air Balloon Rodeo a while back and decided it was finally time to scan the remaining photos from this event. This event takes place every year in July in Steamboat Springs, a town beter known for its skiing. In addition to over 40 balloons taking off, they also have an arts festival to go along with this event.

This photo was obviously taken much earlier than the previous one as the balloons were being filled up.

Scanned, Ran through NeatImage to clear up the sky, removed some scanning artifacts, and sharpened.

Lool, so many baloons and colors.Good POV and all these people give a perfect scale for the size of these wonderful baloons

Nice and colorful view of the world of ballons. It´s nice to see the depth between the ballons, showing some houses in the background. But of course that the ballons are the highlight here! TFS!

great color and its a nice scene instead of the often seen full blown balloon. I have been the the one in albuquerque when I was young and the balloons were so huge when you were down amongst them. This brings back good memories.

Hello Amber,

This is a wonderful shot, with people at the base of the hot air balloon providing scale of their immense size. I just took a gander at the earlier photo that you posted, and together they comprise a complementary pair. What is so wonderful about these creations is the variations in design and color that they can display. I just posted one Hot Air Over Luxor, from a different perspective.

I see that you are a grad student in Boulder. I have a former student, Nick Franciosa, who is in his first year of graduate work in physics there. What's your field, and how far along are you?

Hi Amber. Lovely shot. Speactacular colours and scale. Perhaps filling the shole of the frame with abstracts of the balloons (no sky) might have made even more impact. However, a really great shot. Regards, Paul.

Hi Amber,
It seems that we are both working on our films...
Although I can notice some of the irritating characteristics (burnt skies, very dark shadows) of most scans, it is very good and I wish I could gather one or two like per scanned roll.
The compo is wonderful, for the colours, the shapes of the balloons and also for the life around them.

Hi Amber, Wonderful colours, excellent light & very well composed, you are very lucky, I envy you as I have never been in a hot air balloon & it is one of my ambitions, a superb photo & looks the start of a great day, kind regards Wilson.
