Photographer's Note

This is a shot of the Mount Evans Scenic Byway outside of Denver, Colorado. The road is the highest paved road in North America topping out at 14,130ft. As the road winds it goes through sub-alpine and alpine areas with wildflowers, mountain goats and unbelievable views.

You can see one car in this picture. The car is actually a Mercedes Benz prototype. In speaking with rangers at the top, we learned that many luxury car companies test drive their cars at these high altitudes in order to determine the best mixture of gas in these performance engines. It was very interesting to see cars that are not even on the road yet with computer equipment attached to all pieces of the car.

I recommend this drive for anyone in the greater Denver area. It provides for amazing views and hair-razing driving. The summit (14,264ft) is easily accesible for anyone from the parking lot. Its nice to say you stood atop a 14,000 ft mountain just by driving most of it.
