This kitschy motel is located in Manitou Springs, Colorado. I was always drawn to large neon signs and motor court style motels like this, mostly because they were inexpensive and widely available without a reservation. This one was pretty neat - the lobby is full of stuffed game and the room was that redwood paneling that is common to these places. It had a TV and wireless Internet if you were close to the main desk. I had to ask the proprietors to turn on the neon sign so I could get a picture - they were tickled that I wanted this shot. They said they hadn't turned on the sign in some time and didn't know if it even worked!
Manitou Springs is just outside of Colorado Springs, Colorado. We were on our 2004 Old West vacation and had just visited the Van Briggle Pottery factory. We wanted to check out Garden of the Gods and go up Pike's Peak the next day, but actually ended up staying two days to do everything.
This shot was taken at about 9pm at night in August, the sun had just set behind the mountains and the clouds still were reflecting a little light.
Thanks for checking out my travel photos!

I'm not exactly sure how this photo has managed to evade any comments or points for this long, this site confuses me sometimes! You have captured this scene at the exact perfect time of day, where the lights from the building match perfectly the dimming sky in the background. I love how the neon lights of the sign are the focal point in the shot - a very ineresting scene. Thanks for sharing,
