Photographer's Note

Looking northwest with the sunrise at my back on the morning of a hike to climb Torreys Peak. This photo was taken at the Stevens Gulch trailhead, which serves both Torreys Peak and Grays Peak.

Colorado has 53 peaks over 14,000 feet above sea level (hence the name "fourteeners"). Torreys and Grays Peaks are relatively close to Denver, making them easy to get to. While the hiking at high altitude can be taxing on those not used to it, these two peaks can be hiked, requiring no technical climbing. On a typical nice weekend in the summer it is not uncommon to be sharing the trail with a large number of people
