Photographer’s Note
This is another photo taken with my new Nikon D300. I love this camera, but it has some new features that I am unfamiliar with and I will with have to trudge through the lengthy owner's manual to fully understand all of the possibilities of the new technology (3D lighting, etc.). The young dancer shown here is a member of the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble who is doing a Native American Dance. Cleo's group is celebrating many worldwide cultures for this annual holiday event, not just Christmas.
I am going to continue to experiment with this high tech marvel and I may even be able to rely more on the aperture priority metering mode rather to always adjust the settings manually. The meter on the D300 is superb and if I don't constantly have to adjust the shutter speed manually (to conform to the constant F/2.8 aperture) this will make my job much easier.

Good Morning Stan,
Nicely done with the pose of this "tiny dancer" (sorry about that I just had to make a reference). His costume is quiet interesting as well. I can really see a difference in the level of noise as with this one compared to your previous cameras. I'm assuming with the D300 you can go up in 1/3 increments with the iso? I recently got the 40D and noticed that ability with mine and since I get to take lots of action shots indoors that feature is a huge bonus. I'm with you on the features overload. Seems they try to stick so many things in you become overwhelmed with what you want to do, just capture the moment.
Look forward to seeing more,
Mel

Excellent shot. You have captured the pose perfectly and at 1/40 sec it's amazing the only motion blur I see in a little on the hands. Again the lack of noise at high ISO is a marvel.

Hi Stan,
You have caught this lovely young dancer at a very interesting angle that shows her young face as well as her colorful costume. Excellent clear colors with exceptional focus and details. I love the Native American way of life that calls for us to live in harmony with nature and not to dominate it.
Regards, Tom

Stan, there is so much dynamic tension in this shot that I expect the dancer to creep forward. The framing shows the costume to its best advantage as well. Naturally all the technicals are great!!
After looking at my Paointed Hills shots I have resolved to go with aperature priority and a tripod from now on - Well at least aperature priority. :-)
