Photographer’s Note
This is a sculpture by Larry Kirkland, outside the Webb building in downtown Denver, Colorado.
We had to explore Denver before going on to the mountains, of course I took a bunch of photographs that day. When I was going through them I saw this one and the legend on the wall "What is a City But The People?" and thought immediately of Polonaise, as this (or something very much like it) is one of his favorite sayings. You can see why when you browse his gallery. So, while this is not exactly your style, George, I dedicate this post to you.
Of course, I had no knowledge of TE or Polonaise or what I would even do with the photographs that I got on this trip (I eventually made a coffee table book at Kodak.com). I just thought this was a neat sculpture. No real thought given to the shot, the light was way wrong. I did do a little highlight work in PS and of course built the frame, shrank and sharpened before saving for TE.
Shot with my old Olympus 8080WZ, as were all the shots in this travelogue

Hey Reed, nice shot of the city's modern architecture. At first I thought I'd have cropped out alot of the bottom part of the photo, but decided otherwise when I saw the beautiful shadows and lines you've captured. Nice work. It's Beer O'clock here in Sydney now so will have one in your honour :) Lisa (any excuse)

"" What Is A City But The People ""
?
I couldn't say it any better...
Your photo, Reed...?
Please, don't do it again !
Why - you may ask ?
Because, before I finish to write this sentence - another few million of fotkas with the buildings, concrete structures, grass, water, bricks and clouds will be made by the owners of the cameras - all over the world.
But...?
but if you really insist on photographing walls and sidewalks and the corners of the buildings, please do the following...
Walk around that place few times...Have a coffee or cigarette or a shot of vodka...
Lay down on the ground... Point your camera in the most weird and unseen angle imaginable and press the shutter.
Will your fotka be any better than this one ?
No way in hell, man...
But...
But, I will see the living, thinking, breathable, pulsating with emotions - human being behind that photo.
Right now - I just see the amateurish automate, who's following thousands of other automates on this site...
Some of the brainless automates are joined into the groups of the brainless automates and they are gifting each other with hundreds of points for each of completely worthless posts, and some other automates stay humbly out of that stinky, shameful tradition and remain ignored.
Remember, dear Reed...
1. Coffee, cigarette or shot of vodka
2. Lay down on the ground.
3. Try to find a nice pair of legs while you are down there
4. Press the button.
Tada...
Polonaise will come running with his tongue hanging down his chest, dripping with saliva.
Otherwise - forget it, man...
...............
It's a clear, properly finished and neatly presented fotka...
Damn... There is even not much of a reason to give it a yellow makaka !!
Love and smile, buddy mate...
