Walking Track to Garden of the Gods Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is the view towards the Garden of the Gods, which are the reddish toned rocks, above, & to the right, of where the road & path converge. I caught a local bus to as close as I could get, & walked in the rest of the way along this path. I ended up calling a taxi from the Mexican Restaurant, just outside the park in the distance after sundown. The weather improved marginally with a few patches of blue sky.

Oi Chris!
Always a pleasure to see that place again! Not only the Garden of the Gods, but the Rocky Mountains that were my "companions" for an entire year in Colorado Springs! That mountain in the background used to scare me because I knew there were some army facilities inside, with nuclear ogives!!!

Hello Chris,

It sounds like quite an adventure!
I like how the converging road and path take the eyes towards the distant valley and on towards the blue mountains. The sky dictates the mood very much.
An interesting rugged landscape.

I feel that a crop of the sky, so that the mountains on the right emerge almost from the corner, would give a slightly better composition, more intimacy with the land, if that makes sense!

Good shot with the Colorado Rockies in the background. The red rocks of the Garden of the Gods stands out well against the blue mountains. It looks a nice easy path but probably a bit far to walk after sunset.

The main lines are eye-catching as they seem to meet in a common point somewhere in eternity!
Otherwise I notice the fine colour palette in a landscape marked by autumn...

Hi Chris,

The curve of the path and the diagonal line of the road are assets to the composition. The point of view leads our eyes toward the reddidh rocks and the mountains which is giving depth to the composition. The cloudy sky is enhancing the different tints of the colors of the scenery. The two roads, one modern and the other old make a very nice lead-in to the distant hills and mountains that look very impressive aginst the silver blue sky.

I remember your earlier post from the Garden of the Gods. This one complements the earlier shot, especially with the note recounting your experience. I attended a wedding in nearby Manitou Springs in 2006.

Bonjour Chris,
je suis un peu moins fan de la couleur de ton ciel cette fois-ci.Par contre, j'aime beaucoup le soleil et ses effets sur le sol. Ces montagnes à l'arrière plan me semblent bien plus bleutées que naturellement.
Un beau parallèlisme entre route moderne et vieux chemin.
