Photographer’s Note
No, don't worry, I haven't converted to the Hari Krishna religion. I took this photo at the city of Boulder, Colorado at their Asian festival back in 1992. This lady was a Hari Krishna Dancer from California and she was fabulous. The dance took place under this colorful canopy and the colors mirrored some of the colors on her fabulous attire. I took this without fill-flash. I rarely used flash back then. Fortunately I had my trusty Tamron manual focus 80-200mm F/2.8 lens and the aperture was wide enough to take this with 100 speed film.
I posted this photo because I wanted to post it for awhile and it was already resized and ready to go anyway. I will be tied up for at least three weeks and this will be my last posting until then and I will make a good effort to catch up with my critiques for a couple of days. Until then, everybody have fun and take a lot of photos!

We'll miss you for the next 3 weeks but I hope you get some good shots. What I enjoy from your work is that you never know if you are going to get something from yesterday or from 1992. To me it goes to show its not the the equipment but the eye that makes the difference. TFS Stan.

Hi Stan,
How cool is that! You don’t have to go in Asia, it’s Asia that comes to your door! A californian version at least... :-D)
You were already shooting in 1992! So your experience dates from long time ago and it’s good to know your passion didn’t fade out. That gives me hope for myself...
The colors are bright and percusive. I don’t know if you were using Velvia back then, but having heard so much good comments about it, I wouldn’t be surprised. All that glitter is well exposed and comes out beautifully.
Are you attracted by dancers? Ahahah! I would say so!
Whatever you do for the next three weeks, do it well!
André

:) i haven't seen Hare Krishna dancers just yet, but last week, i met some Hare Krishna priests that were giving lectures around town, had a pleasant conversation and made some photos - lovely people they are! and what's more interesting, 4 of them were singing (vocal and instrumental - on specific instruments, of course) and one of them was closing his eyes while singing and had that immensely peaceful look on his face like your lady dancer here has. good capture of this beautiful lady - well done and thank you!

I love the vibrant colours; there must be every colour of the spectrum here. You captured the dancer well in traditional pose, her closed eyes adding to the tranquil mood.
I hope your 3 weeks break is for fun! :)
Take care

Hi Stan,
Vivid colors, nice composition and you have captured a nice expression of the dancer.
I agree with Mel that it's not the equipment it's the person behind the lens.
I'm looking forward to meeting you in NY.

Hello Stan -
Only in Boulder! It is not so much the woman that I like in this image but the graphic elements of shape and color. You have the multicolored stripes of the tent at two different angles all working together to form a pleasing back drop. The colors of the tent seem to be in harmony rather than contrasting and garish. Add to that the colors of the dancer and we seem to be elevated to high plane. All very pleasing. But, then again it is Boulder. Well done and seen.
Thank you for sharing.

Hi Stan an oldie, 15 years old, but still very strong and perfect colors.
I like it the way she has her eyes closed, gives a very nice serene feeling over it. A truly wonderful photo...great scan work..!!!
Have a safe trip, and take care.
Have a nice weekend, Henk

Bonjour Stan,
un festival de couleurs vives on ne peut plus séduisant.
Une très jolie femme avec des apparats aussi magnifiques, cela ne peut être qu'un spectacle ravissant.
Cadré intime, bien vu.
Best regards.
Daniel.

That's make up and a half Stan - what a picture! I get to see an awful lot of Asian dance in my job including some amazing training schools in India - I'm always knocked out by the amount of work they do to achieve the end result - the background colours against the strength of the dancer present one of the brightest colourscapes I think I've seen on TE!
Have a good break from us and don't forget to come back!
best wishes Kev

Colors are excellent here and sharpness is good, despite the age on the picture and scan process. However, I am less interested by th character here, probably because the dress and ornaments are a bit sophisticated for me.
Take care during these next three weeks.
All the best,
Emmanuel

Holy cow, Stan!! Unbelievable! The light and detail are superb, but that color is breathtaking. I love the way the stripes of color come down behind her and the small tilt to her head. This is extraordinary. WONDERFUL shot! Hope you had a great trip,

Hi Stan,
Welcome back! I just noticed that I forgot about this one even though I had seen it at the date of your posting. Well, your timing couldn't be better. Her pose, eyes and hands closed, exemplifies many ingredients of the Hari Krishna. Sharpness and exposure are perfect. I particularly like the effect you got with f/2.8-just the right amount of blur in the beautiful, colorful backdrop.
Best wishes,
Hakan

Hi Stan,
The DOF is perfect here making the sharp detail of the dancer jump out at us from the soft detail of the BG. Amazing light management as well; the colors have great vibrancy without being garish. As many have commented, your timing is excellent, with the closed eyes and clasped hands conveying serenity.
