Independence Pass
Near Aspen, CO
Independence Pass is a high mountain pass just outside of Aspen, CO on the Continental Divide. It reaches an elevation of 12,095 feet and offers some spectacular views. The pass is traversed by Colorado State Highway 82, the second-highest paved mountain pass in Colorado. Due to snow, it is only open for a few months of the year, from late-May to the first heavy snow in autumn.
An old scan, ran through NeatImage, cleaned up in Photoshop, cropped, and framed.

Amber,
Colors are beautiful (perhaps a bit too saturated), providing nice contrasts.
Of course, the landscape itself is amazing.
Beautiful,
Regards,
JB.

Hello Amber,
A beautiful photo of Independence Pass. I remember when this was only a gravel road. The views from this pass are stunning. Your photo is excellent but I am having a little trouble with the contrast. i believe that it is a bit overdone with the dark shadows and clouds appear to be a bit washed out. You have a beautiful image which just needs a very small amount of "tweeking" in my opinion. You do good work!

Hi Amber,
This is a very nice landscape that has strong colours and an interestng sky. he reflection in the lake's water and the touch of snow on the mountains have created a strong image.
Cheers Grant

I always find it a bit wierd to go back and scan your old favorites. The shot is pretty nice, Amber, and I'm sure an enlargement of the negative is stunning. But this version is constrained by the format change and scanning. You might see if you can apply a grad filter in your photo editor to reduce the brightness in the sky; then you could increase the brightness overall and bring out some of the details in the lower portions. I spent last winter scaning my old shots, and I'm glad to have them for historical value, but I haven't been able to make the scanned shot nearly as nice as digital ones, and I always find them less amenable to manipulation.

Hi Amber. An amazing place. Slightly over-saturated colours (at least on my monitor!) but a very strong image - made, for me, by the reflections. Excellent work. Regards, Paul.

Amber, those colors are amazing. I really like the big clouds in the big sky; the balance of earth, sky, and water; and the reflections in the water, too. The chain of mountain across the background also lends its own very definite interest to the composition.
