Photographer’s Note
This is a shot showing Maroon Lake (altitude 9,580ft (2880m)) taken from the trail we did uphill through the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness to Crater Lake (altitude 10,076ft (3071m)), at the base of the Maroon Bells Mountains.
It was a hot day, we were walking up hill at high altitude and I was carrying my tripod, but the views were so stunning I hardly noticed any tiredness. I had good reason to stop for breath as I took lots of photos.
Click the above links for my previous posts and more information about this beautiful area.
A scene of the aspens on the forest path is in the WS
If you look at the map and zoom in a bit you can trace the trail from Maroon Lake to Crater Lake.

Hi Kath,
the main feature of this beautiful impression is the brightness of the colors! And a very beautiful light is shining on this fascinating landscape! You have chosen an excellent POV to create a very attractive atmosphere. Again a pleasure for the eyes. The photo in WS is phantastic too. TFS!

Hello Kath,
I like the way you have framed the lake through the beautifully toned trees. Also, the way the mountains curve round from right to left. The colours are superb with the landscape beautifully set off by that polarised blue sky. Wonderful clarity.

Hello Kath! I know what you mean, I guess most of us do :))) once you see the beauty of a place nothing can stop you anymore and you run around forgetting everything around you, only every once in a while I have some complaints in my back if I forget myself too long, but I guess your man is also into photography. A perfect photo, Kath, you are among the few that get the whole beauty of the area into the camera, what is your secret ... I stand there, I see, but my clicks don't work the same way. Oh anyway, this is simply wonderful ... Thanks ... Barbara.

wow, Kath. I mean - WOW! the colours literally JUMP off the screen (and then jump right back because it's really cold today in NYC). love this shot, from corner to corner - the silver green of the fir-tree in the foreground framing the scene, V-shape of the valley creating a great sense of depth, green-blue of the lake, bright yellow of the trees... fantastic, and the quality is impeccable, I love how crisp and clear everything is. great shot, my compliments.

Hi Kath,
I don't feel like repeating what I have written about the previous one. I have to be careful so my wife doesn't see this series of yours because I can hardly imagine a better way to forget about the crisis that everybody talks about and rush for these breath taking places. :-)
I guess it's a classic compo, but classics are classic because much people find them amazingly accomplished, so this is actually an accolade, because it takes a lot of talent and inspiration to get a classic like this one.
The same goes for the WS! Truly gold over blue! And they are both so intense!
Hey, you didn't correct the perspective of those trees. :-)>
Regards, José.

Hi Kath,
This could be a schoolbook example on how to compose a landscape photo. Trees on the edges frame the scene. Tree on the left makes composition less centred. There are nice details everywhere, without much empty space. And this goes alos well together with previous shots.

It's great when we are so excited with the views that we don't notice how tired we are. I can see well in your latests posts why that happened with you, Kath. Can't stop looking at these yellow trees. And the WS is the best surprise. I would dare to post it as the main post because of its originality and brightness, although I understand that this one is more proper as a logical sequence of your travelogue.

Hello Kath,
It's amazing that you didn't suffer from altitude sickness.
Again, you have presented a beautiful picture of this very attractive area.
The f/g trees form a 'u' shape to direct our gaze towards the valley and the blue water.
With the water as a lead, and the overlapping hills suggesting the route, you have tremendous depth, here.
The light and shadows, plus the strong colours, have a strong influence on the overall appreciation.
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Kath,
this is another magnificent sight in a wonderful landscape. The chromatic level of the almost autumnal colors in these forests is very strong and attractive, and the lake adds a nice blue contrast.
The mountains and such clean sky also have a big importance in the composition. I think about the same scenery covered by snow in winter and it must be spectacular.
A beautiful work, as usual.

Hi Kath,
I did not realise this was a new post until I had closer look. It quite similar to your previous post, but this is a little more beautiful. I would say it is close to perfect regardless of the strong light. A very minor thing is that the top of the fur tree is very close to the upper edge of the photo but like I have already said close to perfect. TFS and have nice evening!

Hello Kath
From this POV, the name Maroon for the lake looks a bit out of place...reason for the name becomes clear only when we see your earlier shot of this lake. Those bright yellow autumn foliage does catch the eye and the contrast between the green, yellow & the blue, both of the lake & the sky makes this very attractive

Kath,
WOW ... if the photograph already give that feeling I barely can imagine what feeling it must have been standing there and sucking in the view! The composition with the pine tree at the very right and the free standing one more to the left is just perfect. The only thing to have additionaly to that to remind me of a colored Ansel Adams version would be some big, fat cumulus nimbus towering in the sky ;-)

Hi Kath:
I know that the fall colors in the Eastern U.S. and Canada are second to none, but fall colors in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and Utah compare pretty favorably. Lovely shot here. Sharpness is great, colors are incredible, light is well managed, and the overall effect is very pleasing. But most of all, I like that you're presenting a side of Colorado that most photographers don't touch. Great job.
