St. Vrain Mountain Autumn
St. Vrain Mountain Trail
Indian Peaks Wilderness
near Allenspark Colorado
This high elevation trail... Elevation 8900 feet (2713 meters) at the trail head. .... is a place I have always wanted to catch in autumn. It is a quiet trail that winds in and out of Rocky Mountain National Park from the Indian Peaks Wilderness.
Andrew and I often come here in the summer .. it is a great place to escape the heat .. For some reason it took until last year for it to occur to me how wonderful these tall stands of aspens would be in autumn ... and that with the elevation it would change fairly early. Last autumn we visited but Andrew was upset and refused to get out of the car. .. but today he was raring to go. A wonderful day to commune with the universe among these tall trees ..

Very nice perspective! I love the shadows all around and the blue sky is perfect as a background to the colours of that nice trees. This is my favorite season in the North America! I love this colours...

A classic shot, but this succeeds very well. The light and blue sky really make this a keeper. Good job catching the light on the trunks at that angle -- it adds depth to them.

Hi John. I like the way the trees spike up towrd the sky. The sky itself is very intense in colour. Its deep blue remind me of the blue sky found high above glaciers. Good sharpness and angle to compose the image. Autumn is such a beautiful season eh? :-)

This is an inspiring view of the trees all rising and converging at a distant height. The colors of autumn have clearly taken over the area soaring to 9000 feet. Fabulous shot, my friend. I would like to hear a movement of Beethoven's Sixt Symphony as a backdrop to this photograph.

Beautiful light, beautiful colors. The colors contrast between blue sky and the yellow trees are wonderful. You did a good job here. Sothy

Hello John !
Wonderfull capture; very nice pov. Great those almost leafless or autumny leafed trees against the turkis blue sky.
Good sharpness and very nice compo. The only thing I missed in this entry is a nice wide black framing !!!

I remember you commenting on some TE fellow who posted a great aspens shot (a B&W if I'm not wrong) a while ago, saying you were still trying to get a good one...
So : now you got your aspens too!

Superb composition and amazing colors! I like very much the trees' convergence and the perspetive present here! The yellow leaves against the sky are impressive. It looks like a beautiful tapestry. Very well done!

A good perspective here..Strong lines work by the trunks of the trees. I like the golden colours of the leaves, they contrast well with the dark blue polarized sky. The fact that there are highlight and shadow parts here and there, adds extra interest and dynamics..which I like. Good sharpness and contrast.
All the best,

What a pattern! All upward to sky, to light, to the blue - wonderful! Yes, one has to look upward sometimes ...
Greetings from autumal but still warm Germany!

Beautiful fall image of this stand of aspens with their yellow leaves complimennt the blue sky and the white bark contrasting so well with the sky. I love how the shadows come into play on this fine image.

Hello John! Gold aspens against a deep blue sky are always a delight to see, very good work. I like how your POV looking almost straight up emphasizes the height of the trees. The density of the trees is impressive too.
hattori (0) 2007-10-04 0:00
it's very impressive shot, colours, shades and deep blue struck
jrj (34841) 2007-10-04 2:35
Good idea John and well done this compo shooting straight upwards. As motif quite simple but not so easy to accomplish (I've tried myself sometimes). Guess the low placement of the 'horizon' line to have the sky as background as presented must be the trick.
Photo65Net (43120) 2007-10-04 9:52
Amazing perspective, nicely combined with the great saturated colors.
A very nice one, you found wonderful graphics.
xuaxo (6846) 2007-10-04 12:30
This is quite a magical autumn picture. You achieved a wonderful view from your POV. The very blue sky helps to make the yellow leaves even more magical.
pboehringer (770) 2007-10-06 5:29
finally back and starting with a sensational shot. I wish we would have aspens in California too, or at least more accessible from where I live in the Central Valley. Your composition with the white bark, the yellow leaves against the deep blue sky is simply great.

I see your photos are now getting the autumn colours. This one is great. I really like this pov and then, the colours of the trees contratsing with the blue sky is just great.
Hellas (6805) 2007-11-07 3:56
Very good composition with perspective and fine details. The autumnal color is beautiful and the contrast of the trees and the polarized sky make a stunning view.
fserajian (2295) 2007-11-23 22:36
A very original shot, the straight lines created by the tree trunks leading ones eyes to the yellow leaves and finally the blue sky is well captured with excellent details. Well done and TFS
