and it begins.
North fork of the St. Vrain River
Wild Basin Area
Rocky Mountain National Park
I took some time today to go try and catch some early images of the aspens changing ..
The change to autumn color is stunning in the Rocky Mountains and happens slowly as the seasons creeps down from the high elevations to the lower ones .. It seems to be a nudge behind last year .. I had to get up to higher elevations and then search for spots today.
Tough day for photography .. the wind was gusting at about 45 miles per hour (according to my radio).
somehow my map coordinates ended up on the wrong side of the bridge? oh well .. too tired to fix ..

Love this composition John with the river in the bottom right and the clouds in the top left. I just got out to photograph the leaves here in Utah for the first time yesterday as well. Most of the aspens around here are still green but the maples and oaks are bright orange and red. The exposure seems a little dark on the bottom half of the photo. Its better to be too dark than too light IMO, but I did workshop to lighten just a bit. Hope you like it,

Yes - it begins, here too! It's always the same each year but it's always beautiful and fascinating again. The contrast between the dark conifers and the yellow trees (birches) is wonderful and over all this gorgeous blue sky! Great! But there will come other days ... ;-) which also provide an attraction!
Greetings from sunny Germany - and have a nice weekend!

John, cette photo vaut la peine qu'on s'y attarde pour contempler un paysage où l'automne commence à dorer les arbres. La composition est très équilibrée et le ciel superbe.

So, today is the first day of autumn? I guess that same place will be quite different in a couple of weeks. The autumn season is probably the most beautiful of the year, when the colours change to yellow, red and brown. I love it.
The picture is excellent with a superb sky and, of course, beautiful colours. Well done.

this is a dead-ringer to a location near Silver Jack Reservoir in the Uncompaghre Wilderness I visited last year in June.
I can sit here for hours, have a few beers, get lost in my thoughts... so nice and peaceful!

You found such nice color here John! Really special. And the composition is well done, too, with your amounts of space devoted to land and sky. This is such a lovely time of the year!

Georgeous hink of the colors to come as the brief autumn season approaches. The turning aspens compliment the vibrant bule sky with its think white clouds.

I know how beautiful is Colorado. I was there in 1997. I'm sure the nature is as exuberant as before. The light here is effective and view a lot attractive. I love those yellow-green tones. Great capture!
PS: thanks for your words on my last post.

Hello John -
Well done. I am missing the Aspens this year since I am now in Scotland. I noticed on the way up yesterday that the eqivelent trees (Birch, I think) here in the UK are starting to turn. This is a nice view with the St Vrain in the FG and the patches of color on the hill side.
Thank you for sharing.

John, what beautiful upland. Great detail and color and dof works to keep the whole shot crisp, great capture.

This is like a beautiful symphony with the greens and golds playing off each other. The framing has given you great DOF; both the stream and the mountains curving into the distance and the very subtle play of shadows.
I quite like maps, especially for remote areas but they are frustrating. I don't understand why the coordinates are always a bit off. Since I don't have a good sense of the relationship between things; it takes me forever to fix them. In high school, they told me I should never try to be an engineer.
