A classic view from Yosemite National Park, featuring from left to right Half Dome (2693 m), Mount Broderick (2044 m), Liberty Cap (2076 m) and Nevada Falls (181 m). The image was taken at 10:15 am across the Merced River, from the very popular John Muir Trail. The light was still decent, but the smoke produced by forest fires burning outside the park was not favorable to landscape photography.
The trail leading up to Half Dome crosses the Merced River right above the waterfall, goes behind Liberty Cap and Mount Broderick, gaining elevation through the pine forest, and gains the ridge right at the visible spot on the horizon, between the granite humps of Half Dome and Liberty Cap. Then it advances from right to left, pretty much along the skyline or slightly behind it, over the first and second granite humps of Half Dome.

Hello Roland,

Ever since I saw Yosemite Valley about thirty years ago while a young post-doc at UC-Berkeley, I have been convinced that this is the most beautiful natural wonder in the world. You've done an excellent job presenting an unusual view of it (most present El Capitan on the left, with the huge trees appearing like grass at the bottom of the valley). Excellent composition, flawless exposure.

Warm regards from Virginia,

Bulent

In spite of the mid-day sun and smoke, I do like your take of this famous view. The gushing waterfall, domes, and miniature looking evergreen forest are well positioned and flow nicely through the shot.

The 3 massive granite monuments create an impressive landscape the waterfall is a bonus. After a week in SE Asia, even with the smoke, those skies look clear and pristine. It's been muggy, hot and relentlessly overcast for over a week already. I wish I'd gone somewhere else instead. Lesson learned, this is my last trip to SE Asia.

Hi Roland,
a nice ocmposition with the cascade and the peaks.
just the light is average.
regards,didier

Roland,
Decent Yosemite shot - detailed and eciting - reminds me what a wonderful place this is - so TFS!
Informative note too.
Regards
Colin

Hi Roly,

This is a beautiful place and so challenging for rock climbers! Excellent view from this point to get all three massive rocks in the same frame. The image seem a bit dull but then again my screen is not the best for viewing images. Nice work Roland...Heading to Cirque Peak with ACC the weekend after next. Hopefully the weather will be nice to get good pictures. Cheers :-)

Roberto
