Photographer’s Note
One of the lovely sights in this region of rolling hills is the California Live Oak tree that is found standing magestically, often alone. Here we have three such trees, two at the right, one in front of the other at the edge of a vineyard and the third at the left atop a distant hill. As I've noted elsewhere, this particular tree has very tiny leaves so as not to lose its moisture during the hot days of summer and autumn. Of course, standing next to this vineyard, the trees are treated to abundant water as well as the warming breeze created by tall fans set at the edge of the vineyard as insurance against cold mornings that might damage the valuable grapes before harvest. Of course, this was a pleasant autumn day with bright afternoon sun and billowing clouds to improve the view. This is the Napa Valley at its finest.

Yes I agree, the oak here makes for an intersting compo, and compliments the pleasant surrounding landscape.

I was in Napa Valley long time ago...and I loved it ;o)
You made a interesting composition, Curtis, and I particularly like the small tree in the background, chatting with the one in the foreground.
Nice autumnal colors too.

Nice landscape here Curtis. The scraggy branches of the tree present a god contrast against the blues skies. Though I see a problem with exposure in the lower half of the frame. The colors look burnt to me.

very interesting tree Curtis. the composition is nice too..but i would have personally preferred a close up on this interesting tree. a portrait of this tree, with maybe a vulture on top (ok, i might be pushing it lol)

Hi Curtis, fine capture of this valley with the oaks and the vineyards. I think the oak on the hill in the distance is beautiful. In that part it's not hard to fantasise an arcadic landscape that the painters in the 18th?? century used to paint. I like, (I know the perfect Dutch word for it, but can't find it in English), freakish? branches of the oak in the foreground.

Great composition and very good colours, the little tree at the left adds a lot to the composition, I think that you should do a little crop at the bottom where there are a paper shits that don't contribute to the frame.

Gnarly trees are always something I like to look at. They have a life of their own. The way this one is twisted and standing tall above the field and hills really gives it an eerie appearance. A good lead-in to Halloween. And the way it looks also gives it a dry appearance as if the leaves weren't small enough to prevent it from shriveling up in the sun. And you got yourself a beautiful sky. It does seem a bit underexposed on the ground perhaps to keep the sky like this. But it balances out nicely, I think. Well done.

he is beautiful Curtis,
The angle you took it is good, the lines, lead to the old oak, that one is a little dark but it gives a nice atmosphere. Very good photo Curtis, well done.

I didn't realize you were posting again Curtis (well, I didn't really have the time to browse through photos this week...). Two things caught my eye here (other than the overall beautiful scene :)) - the first is the cloud up there looking like a mini hurricane with the circular pattern on upper side and the funnel-looking bottom (I know, the last thing California needs right now is a hurricane, but there is something about this cloud...). The second thing is the naked oak - with its curly thin-looking branches it almost looks like an enlarged model of a vine... It too, is following the majority I guess...
