Photographer’s Note
Tioga Pass Road (California Highway 120) was built along an Indian migration and trading route between the east and west sides of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
It is California's highest paved mountain pass at 2,940 meters (9,646 feet). Due to deep snow storms, the road closes with the first good snowstorm usually before mid October, then reopens in late May. The road connects with Yosemite Valley's road, and provides a good escape from summer mobs. My favorite time to visit are the months of June or September.
This image is just east of the National Park eastern entrance, and east of Tuolumne Meadows. Tioga Lake Campground has 13 camping spaces in a magnificent alpine setting. More high country campgrounds are located farther east.
This image was taken in early June after a snowstorm. In the background is Mount Dana the second highest mountain in Yosemite at 3,981 meters (13,061 feet).
The highest Yosemite mountain is Mount Lyell at 3,997 meters. Mt. Lyell can also be viewed from the Tioga Pass Road.

Ray,
this is obviously scanned...it's not perfect according to today's standards, but it has a unique feeling. The color balance and the stains are easily fixable with the right tools. But it would be useless fixing a soulless pic. This one, you should fix. The light hitting the mountain from the side is absolutely amazing. And the vehicle at the bottom...I don't know what to say...it screams holidays in my mind, I like it.
see you,
Marc
