Photographer’s Note
These are the meadows of Mt. Tallac in the area of Lake Tahoe, California. We hiked 4.8 miles (7.7 km) to the summit at 9,735 ft, and had a 360-degree view of glacier-carved mountains and many lakes, including beautiful Lake Tahoe. I took this photo soon after we summitted, about 10 minutes into our 5-mile trek back to the trailhead. This was a really, really strenuous hike, but the beautiful views and the feeling of accomplishment made it all worth it. Taken on Aug. 28, 2005.
