Photographer’s Note
California's Dept. of Transportation does an admirable job in snow removal on the highways. This large snowblower is clearing Highway 89 in the southwest area of Tahoe.
I got here before the snowblower by cross country skiis. Just below this ridge is the very scenic Emerald Bay.
Western Tahoe is great for cross country skiing up roads leading into Desolation Wilderness. Though usually not Highway 89 due to Caltrans' diligence. The smaller dirt roads and trails are fun to explore.
For those preferring downhill, Alpine skiing, the Tahoe area has more ski resorts than anywhere else in America.
(PS: Those are not rocks flying in the blown snow, but dust from my old dirty slide scanner, which I have recently retired.)

Hello Ray,
If you want to go on a great hike go to Cisco Grove and to Kidd Lake. Pass the lake into the wilderness a few miles and look around you as you follow the trail that leads into a massive boulder field and to a Cinder Cone named Devil's Peak. Along the ground there are rose quartz veins spread throughout the area, so carry a pick in the case that you discover gold.
