Photographer’s Note

The Mad Hatter is the next in the series of Sebastopol lawn art that I have posted this week. Try to identify the "stuff" he is made of.

The following is from the internet:
Today, there are several of Amiot's larger-than-life sculptures on loan to his neighbors, including his portrayal of a postal worker being bitten by a dog; Batman; a firefighter; circus jugglers; an opera singer and a giant duck made from a motor home. Their street has has been nicknamed "the art street."

"I think this expresses exactly how I feel," said Amiot, admiring his sculpture of "The Zucchini Brothers" -- a ladder of three jugglers with Zs on their jerseys, standing on each other's shoulders. The piece is made from motorcycle gas tanks, old metal garbage cans and alarm clocks.

"At the point I made these things, I knew what I wanted to do. And I felt happy about it. I still feel happy about it. It's simple. When people drive by,

they get it. That's the perfect way of expressing myself," he said. "People slow down. They like what they see. I get that approval in the local community.

Like everyone else, I just want to be loved in life."

Down the street is Amiot's sculpture of Batman with a copper helmet and a cape made from an Army tent painted bright blue. Batman's tool belt has a toaster, flashlight, grease gun, meat grinder and cell phone.

"These are fun. It takes away so much from the serious edge of life," Amiot said. "I think I could put one in everybody's front yard now. It's sad to say, but people like what other people like."
