Photographer’s Note
It was a foggy morning in Northern California. I had always wanted to get a shot of these trees but my intention was to get a sunrise shot with the hillsides in the reflection of the water. However, this day, it was not in the cards. Yet, I was able to get a good shot of the trees in amongst the thick fog. This is not a black and white shot, it is purely the colors presented before me and captured by the camera. The tree leaning over has since fallen down. This area often floods in the winter which is why these trees are surrounded by water.

Well taken mystic atmosphere, Mike. The blurred reflections fits well in the foggy conditions. To emphsize this, did you try the b&w version?

Well, if your plan was "not in the cards", you did quite well anyway! A very nice image, graphic yet with a soft feel.
One possible thing to try: zoom out a bit to give the trees more space so they seem more solitary. That's if there aren't other trees surrounding.

I like painting-seeming photos, and this is one of them. Thanks for sharing.

Even though this was not what you were looking to shoot, Mike, it has turned out as a really atmospheric and quite unusual composition. These quasi-silhouettes in the soft light give this a very artistic feel - almost like a painting. You could have also tried adjusting the levels and increasing contrast to give the trees and even stronger silhouette (see workshop) but both treatments work in my view. Cheers . . . David
