Photographer’s Note
The name is from Spanish sauzalito, or "small Willow grove", a city in the San Francisco Bay area, located in Marin County just north of the Golden Gate Bridge. It's rather small, at only about 7,300 people. It developed rapidly as a shipbuilding center during WWII, and is now a picturesque residential community, home to an uncommonly large population of houseboats! It's also bounded by the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, so the views are pretty awesome as well. It became a major hippie haunt during the 60s, according to my parents who lived there in the late 60s and early 70s. Today it's more tame, and boutiques have been replaced by more trendy stores, although some remain. It's well-maintained and a fun stop if you're in the area. The views across the bay are pretty awesome. It was "winter" when this photo was taken, although it was a fairly nice day. It had been raining on and off, but that's not unusual for the time of year and most people are accustomed to it.
