To the right of the Santa Monica Pier lies this tribute to the fallen and wounded soldiers. The small white sign on the left, gives staistics on wounded and/or dead solidiers in both the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. It is a sobering experience to witness this tribute. And to the left of all of this, hordes of tourists are playing, eating, and/or fishing off the pier.

Attractive composition, good perspective. I like this colours combination, the red crosses and soft yellow sand look great! Great POV!

Hi dear Karen
Another tasetful image as your trademark. Great widefocus and panfocus appraoch, that makes so clear and sharp prenetation. I like this bright color touch with much sun lights. So sharp and clear as usual. Thanks a lot and have a good new start of week!

I guess it would be a bit of a contradicting feeling being there. On one side here we have such sorering event and to pay tribute to the fallen and wonded, and yet there are plenty are just out there to enjoyed the fun and the sun. Perhaps, SM is not the right place, especially by the pier to host such event, but yet it is very high visibility being in such popular place with lot of foot traffics of the local and tourists alike. Bring attention to the public.
Good shot of the event. I assume it is only temporary.

I like the lines of the shot that create the depth, the sign that creates the FG interest and the contrast of red crosses with the sand. When I visited this beach I didn't see this but I was towards the Venice beach end of things.
As someone else said it does seem at odds with the context in which it is situated. Unusual.

So, this Arlington is not in Virginia, but on the beach of California, interesting.

An awakening and sobering image of Santa Monica Beach not normally seen.
When will we ever learn to stop invading countries not only costing us trillions of dollars but the deaths of so many innocent humans. We cannot police the world...

Hello Karen - I think the memorial is all the more poignant for the fact that it is placed besides the beach. In the distance we see people enjoying the ocean and I think of the fun and relaxation that a day by the sea brings. For the fallen there is no day at the beach. A sobering image and an excellent post. Warm regards rosemary

Interesting picture can be made in any situation, it all depends on creativity, keen eyes and skill and you certainly possess these qualities. I never think that this is actually a memorial!! Stunning colors and lighting so well exposed of a very creative shot. Congrats. TFS
