Photographer’s Note
In Santa Barbara, CA, every sunday a group called VFP (Veterans for Peace) assembles these crosses on the beach. One cross represents one american soldier killed in the Iraq war. Since it started several years ago, its been a tragic sight to see the crosses stretch across the vast sands along the ocean. To many, it's just a constant reminder of "when is enough enough?"

Jon,
I'll not address the political aspect here but I think it would have been more dramatic if you had focused on the third flag down with a shallow enough f-stop to isolate it. Had that been the shot the case could be made then that every single one represents a dead US service member.
I do notice that no one is assembling the hundreds of thousands of flags that would be needed to represent the Iraqi dead resulting from Saddam's rule, but what the hey...
