I am not a fan of the soap operas, but I just remember that long long long TV show on our channels. This is the same famous church from the headpiece of that movie.
Santa Barbara is an American television soap opera, first broadcast in the United States on NBC on July 30, 1984, and last aired on January 15, 1993. The show revolves around the eventful lives of the wealthy Capwell family of Santa Barbara, California. Other prominent families featured on the soap were the rival Lockridge family, and the more modest Andrade and Perkins families.
The serial was co-produced by NBC and Dobson Productions until February 1985, when New World Pictures joined NBC and Dobson as a production partner. The newly created partnership, New World Television, then served as the distributor for the show.
Santa Barbara aired in over 40 countries around the world. The show's popularity continued to rise, and it even had fans in the White House. In 1985, when character Augusta Lockridge was blinded following a tunnel collapse, Ronald Reagan sent actress Louise Sorel a letter saying he and Nancy were praying for her and hoped she recovered. Santa Barbara won 24 Daytime Emmy Awards and was nominated 30 times for the same award. The show also won 18 Soap Opera Digest Awards, and won various other awards... (from Wiki)

I don't know that show, or the church but I can still appreciate this fine picture! Its fresh and vibrant and feels so alive. All of the colors are combined into a very appealing scene, and a great touch that you caught the people taking the picture, especially because of their even more vibrant colors. Excellent view on this place and a great inviting scene.
all the best

beautiful presentation of this famous mission. I don't remember the TV series but I had a chance to visit Santa Barbara twice and I really enjoyed it. I spent few years in California and leaving the state was the worst mistake of my life :( so this photo works quite sentimental for me ;( Great compo with the palm trees adding a nice exotic touch,

Serghei, I don't remember the soap at all, but this is a very nice image. Great choice of vertical presentation, with the palm dominating the landscape. Great sharpness and light. Thanks.

Ahaha, how funny that you've been able to reference soap opera's. :) Well, despite the broadcast associations, this is a truly delightful slice of California, and you've done a wonderful job in arranging this subject to be most appealing and bright. I bet this could easily pass for a photo from a European or South American country. Plenty of bright color and architectural beauty. Great timing also to catch the couple taking a picture for themselves...it's like looking in a mirror! :o I think Noel said it best, this looks and feels very fresh and alive. Glad you're enjoying the city with much gusto. Have a wonderful afternoon my friend.
All my best,

On the thumbnail I thought you had been to Latin America ...
A well composed and very sunny presentation of the church tower nicely framed by the tall palmtrees.
A very pretty image.
Best regards, Paul

Beau point de vue sur cette tour à travers les palmiers. La lumière permet d'apprécier les couleurs du bâtiment. Bien fait.

I didn't see that soap opera (or any other) but that doesn't stop me from enjoying this picture. It's a fine church, it's well composed with the palms in front and the tourists taking pictures add a human activity. The cars disturb slightly but it would have been impossible to keep them out without destroying the rest of the composition.

I am afraid that I have never heard of this soap opera, but I am-pleased to say I did visit the town of Santa Barbara and its mission church some twenty years ago. So, this shot brings back pleasant memories. I like the point of view here and the use of the framing palms. The lighting was a little harsh but you have managed it reasonably well. Colours and clarity are excellent.

I remember this place very well, we were here in 2008. A pleasant reminder of this very attractive place. I like your note too.

you're in LA now?? Man you get around alot on this planet :)
Good for you!!!
As for this shot.....i hate soap operas :)
Terrible acting, and the story lines seem to never have any ending.
I'm a big fan of vertical compos, so this one i like alot. Excellent colors and striking visual impact. Whats not to like!
Enjoy your time in La La land!

Attractive vertical view of one of California's most popular missions, and the inclusion of the tourists photographing it.
Santa Barbara has many classical Spanish heritage architectures, which makes it a very popular tourist destination.
I had the honor to work with the City of Santa Barbara on the upgrade and rehabilitation of the mission style architecture of the rail station.
Thanks for sharing,
and hope you are having fun in California,

seems the whole California it´s like a paradise for movie lovers abounding in many picturesque sceneries.
This one presents not only fine, stylish architecture, but also conveys with it this unique "californian" feel.

Gorgeous photo of one of my favorite places. Lovely colors on a typical day in Santa Barbara. You have captured this very classic southern California Spanish architecture very well. I lived not too far from this mission, which is one of the largest and most visited in the state, for several years.
jmdias (63504) 2014-06-26 1:42
I guess this is the same kind of church the Spanish Jesuits wanted to build in my birth region, when the Portuguese from são Paulo attacked them and made this area a Portuguese region.
very beautiful angle catching the bell tower, the tourists, and these beautiful palm trees. I liked the light and this sample of architecture. TFS.
