Photographer’s Note
There are 7 million people in the San Francisco Bay Area and not nearly enough generation capacity to provide electricity for all of us. Huge transmission towers standing hundreds of feet in the air bring electricity from distant generating facilities so that my neighbors and I can turn on the lights, or even more importantly, turn on our computers. This shot, taken at the base of one of these towers shows one of four bolts attaching each leg to a huge concrete pillar that supports the structure. The bolt is as thick as my wrist and the nuts are at least ten centimeters across. At the left edge of the frame you will observe, high in the air, three lines carrying electricity.
The tower stands no more than fifty feet from the edge of San Francisco Bay. The photo was taken mid-afternoon yesterday and was later cropped. I sharpened, adjusted levels and increased saturation a bit to bring colors closer to what you would have seen were you standing next to me as I took the photo. Hope you enjoy my visual ode to the wonders of electricity, although I doubt the spider who built the web at the bottom was particulary impressed! ;-)

The inclusion of the three wires are a very good choice, the composition is "opened up" by them. Together with the note they place the detail study in a larger context. I like the pale colors too, very fresh.

This is great, Curtis. A wonderful industrial shot and a great composition. I like everything here:
The angle - low angle makes this huge bolt look even bigger. The rust - good texture of rust (my favorite texture). The title is very creative. Light and colors are very good. The way you show the cables helps mi imagintion to "see" the height of this pillar, and the spider's web is a great additon. A great shot, very very well done.

Great photo! I like the way you placed all the elements in the frame. The empty space on the left, only broken by the powerlines, works very well. Well done!

You truly playing with dimensions and proportions here - if it wasn't for the spiderweb these bolts could be 2 meters high - great capture of colours and yes the wires - Power to the people - would that be a songtitle as well - oh yes - John Lennon.
Thanks for sharing Curtis
