San Francisco is an amazing city, but there's a huge problem that has loomed over several city administrations-HOMELESSNESS. There are many people without a place to live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Politicians talk, clerics pray, police arrest them, but the one true fact remains, people are sleeping on the streets, or in abandoned buildings such as this one. This is a buliding on the Port of San Francisco area on the shore, left over from the industrial era of the city . Holes have been cut in the fence for people to go in and out. On the side walk you can see makeshift living quarters amongst the garbage. If you look closely there's a man rummaging through the garbage.
This happens in San Francisco, California, why, no one seems to know, but the fact remains tonight there are people sleeping here or worst, on the street.
I know the quality is off, not sure why I cropped a bit on the left, and right, and had to resize it considerably.

Interesting, I didn't know about that problem in SF..
I like this kind od image with a strong message.
In that one may be I would have cropped the top to make it more graphic.. Nice though.

I'm afraid this could be seen in all big cities around the world - even in Denmark there’s people living on the street - even we should have a good welfare system.
For some time ago I spotted an old man in racked clothes - we where both in a shop where everything cost one dollar (ok 1.75 = 10kr). I spotted him be course he’s purpose for being there was to get warmth and not to buy things.
I also spotted a change for my first portrait on TE and asked him for permission to a photo - but did only get a no and some words I can't translate ;-)
Thanks for sharing this Cristina - I saw it the first time when I visit NY back in 1979, people living in cardboard boxes on the street - did a great impression on me then.

Good shot. I'm totally familiar with this type of scene around Detroit. The old abandoned building. The barbed wire. The worn out street. So many large abandoned buildings that serve as homes for people without. In fact my abandoned building photo for scavenger hunt also has a homeless man pushing his belongings across the scene, though he is more dwarfed than this one. Good note and photo. Thanks for sharing it here.

I like the balance of this composition using the tower and the building together in the shot. Also I think its important for us to see the way some people live in this country, as you point out in your comment. Nice work.
