Iconic shot from San Francisco - the city by the bay, in California, USA. The cable cars are famous the world over as are the amazingly steep roads they run along. The island prison of Alcatraz visible out in the bay.

Indeed, a classic view from San Francisco, I have some similar ones myself. I like the use of the square crop to concentrate the attention on the main elements. Well managed light and good saturated colours.

This must be one of the most iconic views in San Francisco Brian. A sight I would love to see and here you have cleverly combined the steep hills, tram and Alcatraz. Nicely seen!
Warm regards Rosemary

bellissimo scatto, tutta l'essenza di San Francisco è contenuta in questa foto.
Una vista magnifica e il classico tram colorato in una composizione originale e di alto livello, grande intuizione ed eccellente realizzazione.

great composition with the tram in the foreground and the Alcatraz further in the distance. Very well balanced exposition of the shaded areas with the sun lit places. People on the tram seem to smile to you. I like also the presence of the photographer further down the road. Excellent presentation from SF,

Superb street scene from San Francisco, The Lisbon of America :P

This must be one of the most interesting POV's in San Francisco to take pictures combining its famous landmarks.
The view of Alcatraz together with one of the city's famous cable cars is wonderful. But the view of the very strong sloping street left of the cable car is awesome!
I really like the composition of this picture, the brilliant colours, the reflections in the windows, the pleasant atmosphere created by the passengers and the beautiful green framing of this sloping street.
Best regards, Paul

Beautiful shot Brian!
You´ve found excellent spot to capture this scene. We get here not only iconic S.F tram, but also excellent view on another San Francisco´s icon, namely Alcatraz. And finally you show us here well picturesque topography of the city with its countless hills.
Last thing I´d like to mention is your PP work, which makes the graphics of the image so great!
Have a nice evening

did you pay those people in the fg to be smiling for the camera :)
I think I rode this same line a couple of times.
Ever come back from a city trip and wish you could reurn to get better photos??? thats how I feel with my trip to SF - not happy with my shots at all...anyways...
I'd be happy with this one, and to have the photographer in the bg on the left is a cool bonus!
love seeing the Marina down below in the bg and of course the cherry on top with Alcatraz..awesome.
see you around

"Ding, ding"...I can hear it now, that classic SF trolley...and what do you know, I can see it too! :) What a timeless classic you have here, and just as you mention, it's iconic. Seen thousands of times over...and you know what, it never gets old...especially when it's done this well!
Instantly recognizable, it almost doesn't even need the location detailed. As soon as you see the steep streets and bay view, you'd have to be living under a rock not to know. I'm curious though, what's that island out there...looks like a high-end vacation resort?? lol
What do you think the guy down the street is thinking, it's like looking in a mirror...one of those spy movies where they're watching each other through binoculars, mimicking the same actions. I'd say you have a much better view though, without question! Good timing on this post B, my next picture will be from here as well. Love the reflections on each side of the driver, neat bonus to the overall imagery. Hope you jumped on for a ride or two. Have a good one. Take it easy.
Cheers from the alley-cat...time to go chase some tail. hehe

Classic SF view!
Always a pleasure to see high quality photograph of those details!
I'm glad I could live that too!
Colors, exposure, sharpness, dof, pov and composition are all excellent!
TFS - congrats,

Très belle vue en plongée sur la baie et l'Ile d'Alcatraz. Bonne utilisation du tramway comme avant-plan. Bien fait.

You have captured two icons of SF, beautiful photo with great details, the steep streets are really amazing

Comme tu le dis, "iconic shot" de la baie de San Francisco, remarquablement réalisé avec ce tram et cette vue plongeante sur Alcatraz. Beau contrôle d'exposition des zones d'ombre et de lumière et superbe cadrage.

Very good picture. Composition is very good. I am learning from you.
Another photographer is taking pic from opposite side.

This place is my old dream and I hope to visit San Francisco very soon.
Splendid shot, Brian, I also like this famous island on the background. It makes me smile, well done.
RhodieIke (11744) 2014-03-20 5:56
Great shot of this iconic scene in San Francisco, super colours and Dof, on to the prison island. So much to view and admire, great how we can see a fellow photographer in his pose.
Apurba20 (984) 2014-03-21 2:57
Very sweet and charming. Both the fg and bg impress hugely.
Never thought cars could be so crowded, other than in India...
Kamilutka (8107) 2014-03-21 6:52
I love this one! The cable car climbing up the street with passengers hanging onto the rails is very eye catching subject, but the way you composed the settings is just brilliant. I like panorama in the background which is full of interesting details, especially the little island. Great DOF achieved in here and fantastic colors.
Thanks for sharing

I instantly recognized Alcatraz which I saw from the Golden Gate Bridge. A superb downward pov and the famous tram is a good focal point in the fg. The tracks add depth and perspective with deep lead in lines towards the horizon. Tfs!
tenretin (2657) 2014-03-22 11:23
You made a beautiful photo, well composed with natural colors.
It is a beautiful work, although to my taste it is a fear too saturated.
Noel_Byrne (33588) 2014-03-24 16:32
This picture is full of smiles. The people on board look so happy to see your lens, and the cable car itself is like something from a children's novel. Even the dark shadow of the isle of prisons behind cannot dampen the playful spirit of this fine shot.
Were I a better linguist, I would be tempted to write the story of the little cable car that could :) I think I shall name him Kaleb.
Thanks as always, I needed this smile after a long day in work today.
All the best
