While in San Francisco, doesn't matter what time of year it is, you'll be sure to encounter some fog!
There surely are some sterotypes out there in the world, but this one is certainly true. When thinking of SF, people think of the Golden Gate bridge, and also...FOG.
We spent a full week in this great city, and the day we decided to walk across the Golden Gate just also happened to be the foggiest of the days. I guess you could say it added to the atmosphere! It was still an awesome walk, with amazing views and an unforgettable time.
Thanks for looking

Very beautiful and excellent packing box

Hi Craig, I had no fog in San Francisco. The walk across the Golden Gate bridge must be long. And maybe better to go in fog, then you do not see how high the bridge is. I wouldn't dare to go anyway. The fog certainly adds to the atmosphere, beautiful shot, more original.

very nice shot in a foggy weather. very nice light management with nice other suggestive details.
sevy (58) 2012-05-28 23:55
Yes, iconic in this way. An original way to present this famous bridge, especially knowing it is almost its anniversary as inaugurated May 27th, 1937.

A great foggy one of the Golden Gate Craig.
Royaldevon (42649) 2012-05-29 0:18
Good Morning Craig,
We have seen the Golden Gate from many angles, for it is such an icon of the city, but you have shown us a very moody bridge.
I applaud your composition with the wires emerging from the corner and leading to the obscured, strongly positioned vertical. It is a great guide, for it is a safety feature, making sure we follow the correct path in that swirling mist! What the eyes can't see, the imagination supplies.
A fine, moody, well-presented shot.
Have a great day,

I had a clear blue sky (for a nice change) when I walked across this iconic bridge. Good stereotype of the foggy Golden Gate Bridge, with effective tight framing. We can extrapolate any missing details from the information that is already visible. Tfs!

Wow, fantastic capture with such wonderful foggy iconic capture. The POV and perspective is spot on. Well done. Keep sharing your fantastic photos. Can’t wait to see more.. Bravo!

Splendid scene in that foggy moment. I like this artistic detail, well seen.
Enjoy the day.

What an awesome shot. It's beautiful for what is there, just as much for what is hidden by that amazing mist. Love the square framing and the muted colours. Mist is always a difficult thing to photograph: it either turns out completely sh*te or completely fantastic (as it did here). Great shot, congrats and keep up the inventive photography. As I said to John (tyro), this is probably the last photo of yours I'll critique here on TE, as I've decided to leave. I'll always have a sticky beak at your photos here, and of course on FB. I consider you and T wonderful friends and I hope one day we can meet face to face. It's been so much fun exchanging each other's photos and your critiques always leave me in stitches. I'm so sad about leaving, but I can't stay on whilst TE Admin are behaving as they are. Please stay in touch.
Big hugs to you, T and Scoobi

Great POV and nice color.
Have a nice day.

Aller à San Francisco pour prendre le célèbre pont en photo et frapper une journée nuageuse est un peu décevant, mais tu as réussi une superbe composition avec toute cette brume autour des piliers.
JFS (32459) 2012-05-29 9:07
This is the most sophisticated shot of Golden Gate bridge I've ever seen. BEAUTIFUL!!! Only a sensitive photographer eye could see it!
mursaloglu (8682) 2012-05-29 9:10
This pic is a good example to how can be break up a cliche' for giving new meaning to a trademark of a city. Marvelous foggy atmospher and great golden gate. bravo ihsan

J'aime bien ce type de scéne, un peu confuse, original, presque mystérieuse, superbe image

I like such foggy photos, magic mood, well seen, well done

j'aurai aimé voir ce pont dans le brouillard mais nous avons eu du ciel bleu;-))

I see that you were as dumbfounded as I was when you read Lisa's comments! She had spoken briefly a few days ago about doing this but I really didn't think she was quite so serious about it. She will indeed be sadly missed, not only for her photographs, but also her brilliant critiques, her incisive wit and her camaraderie. We can only hope that the administrators take some notice and correct matters and that Lisa, as well as others who have also left, will return.
Your photograph has a wonderful graphic appeal and the simple composition is very pleasing as well as conforming perfectly with the much revered "Rule of Thirds". The very limited colour palette and the varying gradations of fog and mist are lovely too and, despite the difficult condiitons, your exposure is spot-on and the sharpness exquisite.
siudzi (34141) 2012-05-29 14:27
No more words needed.... This is absolutely outstanding image. Love the visual effect created by the mist. Bravo!! Superb work.

I saw the news that the bridge was now, I do not know how many years. Therefore, a Hungarian portal was a compilation made from the photos from the bridge. I also read that the fog is quite common here, and this is a favorite subject for photographers. Well ... This picture could also fit into the selection.
Have a nice day.
sacimar (28329) 2012-05-31 6:21
I think this is an excellent image of this famous bridge, the foggy atmosphere is perfectly captured here, the composition is interesting, I like it,
mesutilgim (97232) 2012-05-31 22:44
Hello Craig !
Just a "topclass" capture !
Which on the other hand is an evidence for the fact that not allways bright colored and pinsharp entries collects much scores.
Here it's almost monochrome and also not sharp enough, but the compo, layout and light management is such great, that it found the respect, it absolutely deserves !
TFS and have a nice weekend
CLODO (35616) 2012-06-01 2:47
to be at the right place at the right moment .............. and with a camera!
Thank you for your stereotype of SF, not so often photographied in these conditions
npecanhuk (77805) 2012-06-01 6:25
A classical but always welcome picture of Golden Gate bathed by that common local fog!
I love it!
TFS - congrats,
BluSimo (9392) 2012-06-01 11:41
I love the fog, I am born and raised in, but I didn't know that it was in SF. It is not a problem: there are many things that I don't know. This is a great photo, ethereal and difficult like all things that disappear. It is very nice shot.
have a nice W.e.
Hansaphotos (8603) 2012-06-03 4:30
I guess you`re right about the fog; it was foggy when we was there as well. A fine cut of the tower and the wires running in a fine diagonal across the frame. Yes, the fog has a great impact here and adds a lot of atmosphere to the scene. Beatutiful work:) TFS. Enjoy your Sunday.
Best regards, Erling

OOOOhhh, very cool Craig
Famous for its fog indeed, its my favourite atmosphere indeed, and you have made a cool POV and the square format works very well. Love the delicateness of this shot.

Couldn't agree more with that you'd said. Talked to a good friend of mine who lives there, they say tourists get the wrong conception of going to SF during summertime to avoid the fog, but apparently, it's the other way around. Sometimes its better to visit during winter as the chances of sight seeing fog obstruction are lower.
Stayed there for a week during summer and the weather is very unpredictable. Got to see the Bay area clear twice and then the rest was really a foggy day.
How minimal could you get? This one! perfectly composed and framed which best represents SF in a minimalist way! The Fog's effect is wonderful, adds this mysterious effect to the frame. Great shot!
see you around!
notrap (6167) 2012-06-06 2:42
minimalistic and good, even better than taken in bright sunshine.
Didi (60590) 2012-06-09 11:48
What a fantastic nowhere bridge with the fog.
Vey good frame quality.
Angshu (56760) 2012-06-10 22:01
We have read & heard about the legendary fog on the Golden Gate, but I've never really seen a picture which shows the extent of the fog. This is a very different & fine atmosphere you portrayed, with the red cables providing strong lead-ins. As our eyes move towards the right of the frame, the bridge seems to melt into the fog. Lovely atmospheric shot!
Cheers & have a great week
gezimania (6166) 2012-06-14 2:05
I remember this bridge always in fog and sure fog makes the scenery more attractive, you've taken a great detail of Golden Gate with his fog cloth as usual.. Bravo !
eldancer1 (36343) 2012-06-18 9:40
Indeed! This is how I always see San Francisco and of course, this is what I get whenever I visit the city...FOG! I really must visit the city soon! Great capture of this world bridge and I do like the mood. Good dof with nice details. Well done, tfs.
