I've been debating if I should post this photo or not for a long time - only because this view has been posted on TE a couple of times already. The last view was posted by our friend Neyvan (npcanhuk).
But i just love these 2 buildings too much to pass it up, so i'm posting it :)
Its hit and miss when it comes to the weather in San Francisco, but on this day it was sunny, warm and even a hint of nice looking clouds...the perfect day to shoot this scene.
When traveling to a new city, I often will search ahead of time for POV's and subjects on the internet, and I still remember the exciting anticipation I had when walking these streets looking for this exact composition, just waiting and waiting for the scene to present itself!
And here it was. Hope you enjoy.

Hello Craig ,
I can understand your note . When we visit a very famous place , we sometimes hessitate to post some views that have been taken so many and many times . But even similar , there is allways something new or different . Here , tour angke of view is excellent , as the framing and the exposure . The tonaliies of te sky provide a fien backdrop to this outstanding examples of modern architecture .

Perfect ensemble, very clever, two styles, "new" and old, great clarity and sharpness. SF 100%!
yquem46 (38750) 2012-04-24 7:28
I'd regret if you decided not to post it !
I like this juxtaposition of the 2 architectures, both so representative of San Francisco and that I personally find matching well together
The green facade together with the red open shed are beautiful
But I must admit that I'm definitely not fully impartial, since SFO is by far my my most preferred city in north America. Vancouver is not too far !
have a nice day
SnapRJW (31629) 2012-04-24 7:42
Superb shot Craig. There is just something so beautiful about the relationship and contrast between these 2 building. So different in style and yet so perfect together. The whiter areas on the closest façade links it well colour-wise with the modern building and the pinnacles on both provide another good link. Excellent image and as always finely managed! Warm regards Rosemary

I, for one, am very glad that you didn't keep this one to yourself! Despite not being HDR, it is a wonderful shot.
I know, I have seen Neyvan's impressive photograph too but it's always nice to see another "take" on subjects and see them from another photographer's viewpoint.
You have obviously taken some time and consideration in adjusting the juxtaposition of the two buildings - old and modern - and I think the arrangement here is just perfect as a result. The lighting is wonderful too despite the weather in San Francisco and the colours are wonderfully vibrant. Stunning details and sharpness too!
P.S. Hee, hee, but you could have saved youself all the effort and just looked here! I'll drop you a message soon about doing links and co-ordinates!

Hi craig. Old and new side by side - that's a winning combination. Fine composition. Even the color I like the picture very well. Rgds, Wolfgang.

Very good shot, POV and colors. Thses two buildings look great.
josepmarin (58325) 2012-04-24 9:33
I like how you have merged these two buildings in a visual angle in which they seem to have the same height, though only is an optical effect.
The different architectural styles and the different epochs of their construction create an absolutely fantastic graphical contrast, which you have seen in order to create a very attractive composition.
Light and colors are at a high level of quality.
A great photo of architecture, my friend.

Hi Craig, excellent pov to capture this beautiful and interesting picture of the two buildings of different ages, very good sharpness and great depth, good management of light and natural color. Charming and very well done excellent work, congratulations. Tfs.
Good night and happy week.
Best regards and best wishes.
npecanhuk (73490) 2012-04-24 12:42
Wow! You mentioned my name here... what a honor!!! Yes, my friend, we cannot avoid taking that picture when right in front of those two buildings, can we?!
I love your version too! Softer light and colors, as compared to mine!
TFS - congrats,
holmertz (48856) 2012-04-24 12:42
A city view as stunning as the combination of these two buildings could certainly be seen several times. As far as I remember there are more than just two or three pictures on TE showing the Eiffel tower or the Pyramids :-)
Is it a coincidence that the boldly designed skyscraper was positioned like this, or did the architect have this POV in mind already when sitting at his (her?) desk. Anyway I adore the green details and the red marquee of the old building. Superb.

I have problem all the time. I jumping from one link to another. Right now I'm on www.beta.trekearth.com. Try this one, may help. I'm using both links TE.
Frnakly, I really enjoying this picture and I'm glad that you posted beacause everyone who making a shot of the same place, always is a little different POV, different weather, different people around and so on.
It's mix architecture, but I really love it. A very beautiful and a very impressive. You composed this photo beautifully and flawlessly. Perfectly well done. I love it.
An excellently executed image. Awesome photo job.
All the best,

A really interesting POV, showing the nice contrast between two archtectonic periods. You light management is just perfect. The clear day with these clouds gave a good atmosphere to the scene and provided very intense and beautiful colors. Fantastic.

The title is aptly chosen. The buildings are spectacular. the graphics are outstanding. I like to see the café at the base of buildings. Composition, light, color and sharpness are excellent. Bravo.
Have a nice day
CLODO (33418) 2012-04-25 4:00
Good mix of old and new buildings, as if the new one was consolidating the old one. The green bow windows contrast with the red curtain of the restaurant and the few persons add life to your shot.
lgir (7277) 2012-04-25 5:35
nice POV where one way to rub the old and the modern mind with the same construction: tall and narrow.
Thanks for sharing
timecapturer (49288) 2012-04-25 6:01
I have not posted my shots of this magnificent building yet either. I deliberately sought out this building when in SF last year, and that was down to your posts here on TE! So thanks. This is a superbly executed shot and composition with the two distinctive contrasting styles of architecture almost kissing each other. Wonderful.
Regards - Brian.

un endroit rempli de paradoxes, un mélange d'architectures d'époques très éloignées. Etonnament, elles se marient bien à mes yeux.
La photo est d'une netteté déroutante.
adramad (43095) 2012-04-25 10:10
That most wonderful composition .... and that stark contrast between two periods of construction, both styles are magnificent and this creates a magnified image strange and lovely harmony.
Very good sharpness and beautiful natural colors.
Have a nice day.
All the best.
paololg (31448) 2012-04-25 10:55
Ciao dear Craig,
I totally agree with you in choosing to post this wonderful picture, first of all because it is a picture with a stunning photographic quality, and also because even if the subject is the same, each photo has something different and is characterized by the style of the photographer. It's always a great pleasure for the eyes to admire pictures like this. Congratulations!
Ciao, have a nice Thursday!
worldcitizen (8198) 2012-04-25 15:15
More great architecture. I like it! :-) These two buildings couldn't be more different, yet they seem to reside so peacefully next to one another. I definitely love the details on the green-trimmed building, and the way both structures taper to a point on top. It is such a well-balanced image. Do you know what the green-trimmed building is used for?
dkmurphys (55827) 2012-04-25 23:48
Wonderful architecture in that city. I guess those are a kind of symbols, I've seen them in a lot of images and postcards.
Well taken, have a nice day.
ikeharel (67121) 2012-04-26 1:34
A nice street and buildings view, Craig, collected from pavement to top's.
The unique edifice with light-green and special archi. is most fabulous, mingling with modern styles buildings.
Royaldevon (36077) 2012-04-26 2:16
I applaud you for your anticipation. I often research places I will be visiting but always with 'interest' in mind, not necessarily photography - though I know I will take my camera with me.
This is a wonderful pov, with the striking green and red adorned building grabbing the interest, before the less colourful, declining angled skyscrapers lead us gently away. Excellent sharpness to reveal much detail.
I wouldn't worry about others having posted a shot. Different light, different time of day, the style of the photographer, all make each shot totally individual.
Have a lovely day,
mauro61 (52855) 2012-04-26 14:48
perfetta la definizione che mostra al meglio i particolari architettonici degi edifici.
Buona la resa dei colori con le capottine rosse e la gente che passa,

Great comparasion of the two different architecture styles. Good vertical format, excellent sharpness.
Yes, I remember this photo in the Neyvan's gallery too.
brianmcc (6219) 2012-04-27 12:44
your anticipation was understandable given the fantastic result you have produced. you have composed this perfectly with the two buildings back to back, and the contrast in styles so apparent. wonderful light and strong colours. the green and red stand out superbly. you have achieved a perfect depth of field and level of sharpness and detail. an excellent composition.

Hi Craig !!
I am back home after driving 23 000 Km in just under 6 months.Sorry that I was unable to keep participating in Trekearth for a while, I was on the move most the time.
I am glad that you posted this photo..... it is really nice..... in particular the green building at the front.
Interesting perspective.... it appears to be as tall as the other building behind.
kato (11630) 2012-04-29 14:27
You're capturing well this cityscape by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see two interesting buildings with unique shape. So, the left is triangular and the other seems to the building which combined the pillar. And, it's impressive and effectrive for color combination of white, green and red.
Have a nice day.
baddori (20113) 2012-05-04 13:29
Adoro queste costruzioni ...in metallo prefabbricato anni 20 e succ. Il verde è perfetto come l'inquadratura efficace .
Noel_Byrne (29123) 2012-07-08 9:53
This is one of the greatest new and old contrasts I've seen, with the colours and the very particular shapes of the buildings working brilliantly against each other. A beautiful iconic building in the background, and a historic wonder to contest it. Excellent light and contrast too.
