Crystal Pier, Pacific Beach, San Diego, CA
(Official Web Site)
The Crystal Pier, today is considered one of the top 10 piers in the United States, was first conceived by Earl Taylor, a realtor in the mid-1920s who was trying to make Pacific Beach a more attractive area for selling property. With the financial backing of Earnest Pickering, the construction got underway for the "Pickering Pleasure Pier" in 1925. Hopes were high, and the local news proudly proclaimed Pacific Beach "Home of the Million Dollar Pier." When Pickering left the project due to financial difficulties, Neal Nettleship gained ownership and renamed the pier "Crystal Pier."
