Photographer’s Note
I'd forgotten about the Community Fair and Parade scheduled for Sunday in San Anselmo. Each year at the end of summer the main street is closed so families can wonder through downtown and enjoy the day together. The day begins with a parade that involves parents, kids, dogs, city employees, in fact, anyone who wants to walk down the street. Later there are games and rides set up from children as well as some music and food for everyone. I was running an errand in the middle of the day when I noticed the many people approaching the downtown, then saw that San Anselmo Avenue was blocked off. After running my errand I returned to the area.
It was only after walking half a block that I heard the band. As I approached I noticed the folks dancing in the street, which was quite understandable considering the great Motown sounds created by this band. Although I've made no effort to find bands to photograph, I seem to stumble on them quite regularly. As before, I walked right up to the bandstand and started shooting. The performers seemed to appreciate my efforts because a number of them played to the camera as they performed. I'll likely post a few photos over the next couple of days from this event.
This is one of four singers with the group, two men and two women. This character was smooth, working the audience from the stage and then cruising through the audience when not on stage, his eye quick to find the attractive women who were enjoying his music. The band was great and the audience appreciated their effort. I certainly did as well. I have no idea how well the day turned out for this fellow... Hope you enjoy the photos.

Hi Curtis, handsome singer! Very good light on his face, which is not so easy I think, his dark complexion under a hat, but it's all very well visible. I like the overall white feeling of this picture, and then the dashes of color, like the red of the man's hat behind him, and the blue on the microphone. I like his earring, being a bright spot, and his hand, being a handlover ;-) He is clearly looking at someone intensively, indeed like you say, working the audience.
Good work, it's true, you posted quite a few performers lately.

What a lovely portrait, Curtis. No flash here, no shortcuts around the metering difficulties of photographing black faces sometimes, and yet you have captured enough to make the whole thing sing, as is your intention.
Exceptional, in my view.
Cheers,
Francis
