Every Memorial Day weekend (last weekend in May), Old Saramento celebrates with a parade and 3 day jazz festival. Multiple bands perform around Old Sacramento.
Sacramento soon became the supply hub for the Sierra Nevada gold fields after the discovery of gold in 1848 at Coloma. Built next to the Sacramento River and the confluence with the American River. In the 1860s it was to become the capitol of California and a magnificent Capitol building and park is just east of Old Sac.
