Kinda like my "first love", it only lasted a year and a half, but it has been remembered as much bigger than perhaps it really was. The Pony Express started on April 3, 1860, a horse back mail delivery system from St. Joseph, Missouri using horse relay stations all the way west to Sacramento, the heart of the gold rush country. The telegraph line system would end the need for the Pony Express.
Oath sworn by Pony Express Riders:
"While I am the employ of A. Majors, I agree not to use profane language, not to get drunk, not to gamble, not to treat animals cruelly and not to do anything else that is incompatible with the conduct of a gentleman, And I agree, if I violate any of the above conditions, to accept my discharge without any pay for my services."
This view is from last year's "Gold Rush Festival" in Old Sacramento, which returns again this Labor Day weekend, starting August 30th.

Very interesting picture with the effect of movement, and with great colors! And it must have been an excellent event! Good panning! Beautiful job!

This is very well done. The galloping horse illustrates the title of your picture so well and of course the red shirt of the rider helps to make the duo stand out from the BG. A dynamic image and a great supporting note.
Kind Regards, Ann

I only heard recently how short a life the Pony Express had before it went under, but it still lives on in a way, there is a transport compan in Ireland with the same name. Using trucks though, not horses.
Great sensation of movement in your shot here, one of those that looks as if the scene IS actually moving. innovative way to take a capture here, nice one.
All the best

I do like this blurry capture, it's very dynamic and eye-catching. The red jacket of the rider creates great contrast with the sandy colors of the setting. A very original picture. Funny note too.

This is one those rare photos where everything being blurry is an asset, not a shortcoming. The colors are very pleasant, too. Very well done, congratulations!

I'm guessing you took a LOT of photos in order to get just one the way you wanted it. I've done it many, many times. The rider's red shirt and blue jeans really pop in this shot. Very nice motion blur.

Hello, nice action shot. It gives more meaning to the idea of the speed behind the Pony Express. Nice mixture of colors and strong sense of direction with the use of panning,
