Photographer’s Note
At the confluence of the Sacramento and American Rivers, Sacramento would become the hub of the gold seekers and business people seeking profits from the wealth of the westward movement. More money was made by those catering to the miners than the miners themselves, store keepers, restaurants, hotels, laundry, and saloons. It would also become the golden state's capital.
Every Labor Day, the first weekend in September, Sacramento celebrates its heritage with parades, exhibits, music, and historical artifacts, trains, and this example, a horse drawn wagon.
