sunset at the Sundial Bridge in Redding, Ca. I was standing along the shore of the Sacramento River looking across at the pedestrian bridge. This year is the 10th anniversary of the bridge opened on July 4th, 2004.
"The Spanish architect and engineer Santiago Calatrava conceived the Sundial Bridge’s unusual design, his first free-standing bridge in the United States." "The cable-stayed structure has an inclined, 217 foot pylon constructed of 580 tons of steel. The deck is made up of 200 tons of glass and granite and is supported by more than 4,300 feet of cable. The structure is stabilized by a steel truss, and rests on a foundation of more than 115 tons of steel and 1,900 cubic yards of concrete. The McConnell Foundation, a private, independent foundation established in Redding in 1964, funded the majority of the bridge’s $23 million cost."(http://www.turtlebay.org/sundialbridge)

these bridges, i'm not sure if photos ever do them any justice in terms of how the average person appreciated them...what i mean is, so much engineering and physics go into the design, and yet its still very beautiful.
as for your photo here you're lucky to have taken it during some very pretty colors during sunset - looks fantastic.
almost has the look and feel of an oversized Harp :)

Certainly one of very unique bridges, and the main support does resemble a sundial.
Enhanced by your colorful sunset background, and the lights inside the crossing.

Beautiful! Love the effect of the slow speed on the mood. Awesome colors. Good lighting and with nice details for timed exposure. Well done, tfs.

This sunset is gorgeous. The color is so beautiful. This bridge is pretty contemporary. It's rare in the US. Thanks for sharing.
