I set out early this afternoon to enjoy the warm weather and drove down along the Pacific Coast Highway to the state beach where Pt. Mugu rock is at.
Such a very warm and windy day today helped to create those stormy waves at the ocean this evening. I chose a southern view of the Pacific Ocean looking down the coast at Pt. Mugu rock.
I climbed up on the rocks where the fisherman were catching their fish and set up my tripod. The moon was out and I did manage to take several photos including the moon but it was just a little too high in the sky. I was really in awe of the wonderful colors in the sky tonight. So this photo sets in my mind what the experience was like for me tonight, with the stormy waves created by the warm winds, the lovely sunset colors and the beautiful sky this evening.
Photography takes me out into nature to experience the sun, the moon, the ocean and the warmth of the wind. Those elements will cement the wonderful evening up on the rocks capturing the sunset this evening,
Please enjoy my photo...

Hello Karen - Your note illustrates exactly the experiences I enjoy about landscape photography; being out in the natural world and marveling at the wonder of it. I think your shot is lovely, finely produced and conveying much of what you speak about. Thank you for sharing your special moment. Warm regards Rosemary

one of my favourite and most memorable drives and it is obviously close to you. So jealous. You have captured the wonder and magnificence of this Ocean paradise and in such a tantalising light. A real sense of the power and movement of the waves here too. A delight!
Enjoy the week ahead - B.

nice the view of the rocky coastline with the use of 1/3 sec to creates a beautiful optical effect.
I like the light and the colour management as the beauty of the image.

Fine vertical sunset view of the scenic Pt. Mugu area, with the wave action splashing the textured rocks, and dramatic colorful sky.

You are very lucky to have the possibility to appreciate a warm wind in January. In France (near Paris),the weather is wet and cold.
I like the colors of your picture.a nice harmony with the green and brown of the rocks and the splendid sky and the beautiful light in the clouds.
The waves bring a very dynamic effect with the splashes on the rocks and the foam on the water.
good sharpness too.
Thank you for this homage to the nature.I like it.

Beautiful shot of the California coast, I can almost here the sound of the wave, and the jingle, "947 the wave..." :)
Love the sunset sky and color of gold illuminated the clouds. The blur of the wave give a strong sense of motion as it splashes and bouncing off the rock. I can feel the energy of the current. Nice control on the contrast of the dark rocks and light. Good quality and very nice composition.

Your drive to Pt. Mugu Rock and your patience when you were looking for the best perspective, the best lighting and the best composition really paid off. As a photographer, it is usually a good idea to take many photos. There is usually one photo that is better, often far better, than all the others. I am convinced that this superb photo is such a photo, a photo that is far better than all the others you took that evening.
I like very much your choice of a vertical format and that the waves splashing against the rocks and the still sunlit clouds after the sunset sort of form a semi circle. That the lighting could not have been better is perhaps needless to say. TFS and have a nice weekend!

Spectacular composition, with the beauty that makes this rocky coast, with uneven edges, waves adds great love the composition, also the beautiful sky, with those ideal color tones, contributes to the great charm of the picture.
Very good management of both the brightness and the sharpness.
The color is great, very well balanced.
I wish you a happy start to the week.

You certainly show us here the beauty and rugged landscape of this Pt. Mugu rock.
Great motion shot of the waves and love the way the sun has caught the small band of clouds. We can see the light fading and bring in different colours, well worth the climb hey, Tfs,

A classic coastal composition making great use of the rocks to compose the shot and a lovely sky too. I spent some time in Ojai and travelled up the PCH form LA to Santa Barbara a few times. I loved Carpinteria - great little place.

Hi Karen. An interesting landscape study. Composition, light and Fareben are well. The slow shutter speed shows especially the movement of the sea. Very nice.
