Photographer’s Note
This is Limantour beach near Point Reyes Station California. My girlfriend and I had gone on a weekend getaway out of the San Francisco Bay Area and had headed down to this beach earlier before sunset, as I was taking photos by the water, my girlfriend had noticed som other beachgoers had left a few small embers in a fire and it began to get colder. She decided to revive the fire so we could stay out longer. Once she got the fire up and running, I camme over and setup my tripod and used my ML-L3 little remote trigger with my camera on the bulb function. And pressed it once to start the exposure. For the next neary 19 minutes we sat by the fire and drank wine until we got too cold and pressed the button to close the exposure. :) PP: convert raw, some Hue/saturation adjustments and curves, and USM.

Excellent picture Joe !
Did you use a filter to do this ?
With a f/4.5 that seems that you were in the total night ?
Cheers,

I have seen this effect many times now. What sets your picture apart are the fantastic purples in the sky and their transition to the oranges in the sand. It looks like there is a light source in the distance lighting the sky on the lower right. Is that because the sun is rising/setting or is there a city near here? TFS

Joe,
A pretty cool image - I love the long exposure - how long was it? I've been thinking about doing some similar shots this summer and was hoping for some advice.
Great shot!

Hi Joe,
Great exposure. I like how you kept your location with the little hill on the right. The sparks from the fire also add to the feel. Nineteen minutes creats that much movement. Amazing. I would love to try this out.

Hello Joe,
A nice longer exposure on the sky showing us the star tails.
You could even expose longer.
regards
Didier
