Singin' in the Rain Photo

Photographer’s Note

I have show you the preparation of the Rose Parade in my last post. It was raining dogs and cats in Pasadena during the entire parade. However, the show goes on as scheduled.

This is a view of Disney float parade on Colorado Boulevard about the position crossing Hills Avenue. The float engine broke down. So, there was a big truck towing the Disney float, the "Craftsman Trophy" winner of the parade; the longest float in the parade. A different PoV of the same float is shown in the WS,

Many audiences were watching in the rain. On the float, the brave parade participants were still singing, singing loud in the rain.

It was a tough shot. I managed to keep my camera dry although I got soaking wet myself.

I'm sorry about the bad weather you got today in Pasadena but despite of that the parade was on as I saw on TV. This picture is an excellent example of what happened today, umbrellas all over because the persistent rain.

Hi Wes, well we often see a bright sun over Pasadena usually, quite different this year. Very clear picture considering the cloudy and rainy day, I've missed the parade though, thanks for sharing this moment :-)

Wes nice capture in the rain. now you know wha the weather is like almost every day up here in Chilliwack in the winter. I hear of terrible floods in California. The unbrellas really make a nice colorful fill in on the bottom right of the frame. Good work!

i really like the expression of the man with the yellow raincoat. His coat also matches the trimming on the castle float.

Hello mon ami Wes,
Chaque pays a ses expressions pour dire qu'il pleut très fort.
Chez vous c'est : It was raining dogs and cats ! chez nous : c'est il pleuvait des cordes, je crois qu'il existe aussi en Angleterre : il pleuvait des hallebardes !
Cela dit, la photo est très réussie malgré la pluie, c'est une prise de vue qui sort de l'ordinaire, la population est courageuse pour voir passer ce défilé.
Les couleurs ressortent très bien.

Still a very colorful shot in spite of the rain. Well managed low light levels, with good sharpness & contrast. Congratulations!

It still looks as if everyone was having a great time despite the inclement weather. Good capture of the float surrounded by umbellas; the man in yellow looks surprised it's raining.

Hi Wes,
The different umbrellas make the picture colored, but the Disney float parade on Colorado Boulevard with the towers make a lovely composition.

The weather co-operates a little here by causing a flurry of colourful umbrellas to appear. A good POV here, and the DOF allows us to see the distant buildings in the mist. Well captured, Wes. All the best for 2006.

You took festival moments with different weather and scenery moods very well. Here we have a multiple colorful street umbrellas and yours ;-))) you must preserve your lens and camera!

This scene is more like London than Pasadena. The colours still come through well though and the composition is great. A very natural scene and one that conveys the action of the scene. Good work.

Hi Mr. Wes. I think the main shot is much better organized and less cluttered than the WS. I heard how much rain you guys had out there. Good job keeping the lens free of water drops. Nice take Wes.

Wow! Too bad it was a rainy day. It was a nice event to take wonderful shots. I like very much this composition. Specially the man on the yellow coat. Great explosion of colors and shapes in the umbrellas. I hope you would share with us more picture of this parade. Well done, Gabriel

Being a bit late in my critiques, I stopped on this one before going and see what is a non resident eye on Japan...
The umbrellas here makes a nice composition, and the truck ( a big one unique in the world and an american speciality to cross the continent) is very attractive.
