The grand marshall for the 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade today is primologist Jane Goodall. Seen here among a wonderful array of beautiful roses she heralded in the parade for 2013. The theme for this years 124th rose parade is "Oh, the Places You'll Go!". Jane Goodalls life story is all about having a sense of adventure and openness that the theme represents. She founded the Jane Goodall Foundation in 1977 to help protect the wild chimpanzees of Gombe Nationl Park in Tanzania. She also started the Roots and Shoots program to bring global environmental and humanitarian programs to young people and her program boasts having hundreds of thousands of members in more than 120 countries.
Jane Goodall says,"New Year's Day symbolizes the opportunity to work toward new goals, experience new beginnings, and make a differnce. My dream for this New Year's Day is for everyone to think of the places we can all go if we work together to make our world a better place. Every journey starts with a step, and I am pleased to see the Tournament of Roses continue to take steps toward not only celebratng beauty and imagination, but also a cleaner environment."
