The pier at Scorpion Harbor, Santa Cruz Island is where visitors disembark from the Island Packers tour boats from Oxnard Harbor, California.
Santa Cruz Island was named for a priest's staff accidentally left on the island during the Portola expedition of 1769. A Chumash Indian found the cross tipped stave and returned it to the priest. The Spaniards were so impressed that they called this island of friendly people "La Isla de Santa Cruz", the Island of the Sacred Cross.
The Island was inhabited over 10,000 years by American Indians. The Chumash people had ten villages housing over 1,200 people. They traded with the California mainland via large plank canoes. In the 1800s the whiteman arrived, the Scorpion Ranch primarily for agriculture was built, and the Chumash were moved to mainland Indian reservations.

Hello Ray, Interesting note about the history of the island,. Chumash people were friendly but the greedy white men needed the land so they had to move. Beautiful cliff, would be great view from there. Nice composition, the people are so tiny.

The small pier against the big mountain cares for a nice contrast picture.
Composition and subject make these picture attractive.
Colours and presentation are pleasant to look at.
Very well done, TFS.

Ray, it is so nice to see a picture from this beautiful place when there is no wind..usually is very windy there and the sea is not as calm as in your picture..
enjoy the journey..

Looks like the pier is on the shallow beach but it does provide the scale. Good pov and dof with nice details. Well done, tfs.

This is a very cool natural feature, and I can see many legends being built about how this strange shape in the rock came to be, I am thinking them in my mind right now. Great composition to give a nice sense of wide open space here too.
