Photographer’s Note

On our visit to Oceanside, California this past week, we took the opportunity to visit one of the outstanding landmarks there, the Oceanside Pier. Oceanside has always had a pier for our residents and visitors to enjoy. The first one, built in 1888, was located at what is now Wisconsin Avenue. The next five were built on the site where you’ll find the current pier—at the end of Pier View Way. The concrete approach to the current pier was built in 1925; the wooden portion in 1988. At 1,954 feet this pier is the longest of its kind on the west coast. This is a favorite fishing location and also offers locals and tourists a wonderful place to eat - Ruby's Diner located at the end of the pier.
