Good morning TE!! Getting a late start today, but have the third installment of my “Northstar Mountain Resort to Watson Lake Hike Series” ready for your viewing. But before I go on I’d like to ask if anyone has checked the Google Maps Track of our Hike last weekend? I’m interested to know what you think. I find that when you zoom in, the trail track spreads out and shows all locations of the hike with statistic’s and elevations. Here is the link, just copy and paste it to your browser;

If you have this opened now, take a look at the straight tracking lines from the beginning of the hike. This is the gondola ride up to the summit, that we missed coming back down (big bummer). You will see parallel to the straight line a curvy track line, which shows us scrambling down the mountain, zigzagging trying to avoid large rock formations and heavy tree lines. Also if you check out the map of our hike you will see where we ended up at Watson Lake where we hike around it to see all that it had to offer.

This photo is of one of many trees that had fallen into the lake. Because of the heavy snows and very strong winds, many trees don’t make it through the winter and fall to the ground and start the putrefaction that feeds the “Sierra Eco System”, completing the cycle of life. I hope you find the photo pleasing. The sun was so bright and was very harsh, keeping me from getting the shot I really wanted. I settled for this wonderful Shadows/Shade to Sunshine photo of a fallen tree half in the lake. After spending some time hiking around the lake we started back, and now that the hike is over, we wished we had left the lake a little sooner, in order to catch the last ride down the mountain on the Zepher Chair Lift. But as you know already………WE MISSED IT!!

Below is a little information on Watson Lake, which is just off the Tahoe Rim Trail, near the North Shore of Lake Tahoe.

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone………………Buddy & Jenny Denmark

Watson Lake can be found on the Tahoe City USGS quad topo map. Watson Lake is a lake in Placer County in the state of California. The latitude and longitude coordinates for this lake are 39.2249, -120.1374 and the altitude is 7779 feet (2371 meters).

The Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT) is a 165-mile path that traverses the ridgeline of Lake Tahoe's crown of peaks. This spectacular necklace of trails opened last year, the culmination of two decades of fund-raising and pathfinding. The TRT offers sweeping views of the lake and much of it is accessible to everyone from casual day hikers to hard-core backpackers. In mid-July, it is ablaze with wildflowers; in September and October, with fall foliage. In most years, the trail can be traveled by mid-June.
