Mount Shasta, a stratovolcano that last erupted in the 1786, looms large in the background of this abandoned old house situated to the northeast of the mountain. Mount Shasta or 'White Mountain' from the (Karuk)Native American word: Úytaahkoo. Mount Shasta is the second highest volcano on the United States and the fifth highest peak in California. It stands at 14,179 ft. It is part of the Cascades Volcanic Arc and consists of four overlapping volcanic cones.
We found this old abandoned farm house near an old covered bridge. There were cattle grazing around. Not much else out there except ranch land.
I took three photos of the old house that I like from different viewpoints but this one captivated me the most because of the long shadows which I think adds to the drama of the scene. There is definitely something about Mount Shasta which draws in the most unique clouds especially lenticular clouds.

Hello Karen ,
A wonderful composition , with each element at the right place . Gorgeous sky and effective diagonal of the fence and the shade in the FG .

A strong composition showcasing interesting details through and through, with an appealing rugged house nestled by trees, good diagonal line created by the fence, long stretched shadows that leads into the photo, a thick layer of textured cloud and a stunning background with Mount Shasta.
An ideal image of North America with a timeless quality.

Yes indeed, I think clouds are attracted to Mt. Shasta like a magnet, or at least whenever I travel here there are clouds.
A fine pastoral scene in warm lighting, the classical barb wire fence and ancient farm house are idyllic.
Thanks for sharing,

CVharming picture of thuis rural American landscape in marvelous light. But why the image is so small? It would look fantastic in the whole screen in beta. It must be very windy in this place,
Kind regrads MAlgo

Hello Karen - A super, rural American scene. I am struck by how much the shadow adds to your composition here, who would have thought it would add such a feeling of dynamism to the shot?
Beautifully managed I get a feel for both the intimate and vastness of the landscape.
Warm regards Rosemary
PS Thanks for the filter details, I appreciate it.

this is a beautiful impression in every sense, the golden light makes it very attractive and the contrast of the colors is simply wonderful. The composition is excellent. My compliments!

Beautiful countryside scene! I wouldn't mind living in the area. I used to drive I-5 from Portland to Los Angeles a lot, it's a beautiful drive. Good lighting and sharp details. Well done, tfs.

This is a cracker of a shot.
The fence and the long shadow are joint leads to the strongly placed, abandoned farmhouse, shepherded by the trees. From there, it is a natural lead to Mount Shasta, ominously large, with its head nudging the clouds.
This has been a real memory jogger.
My mother used to have a mural on her wall of Mount Shasta and I never really knew where it was. Thanks for the information.
Have a lovely w/e,

Very beautiful and attractive picture!
Sharpness, exposure, colors, chosen pov and composition really pleased me with just two "buts": maybe the shadow of the person on the left bottom corner should have been avoided and the fact that this photo surely deserved a larger version!
