Photographer’s Note
Taken one evening a few miles from any town, although it was about 15 minutes away from our hotel in Ridgecrest. It may not be really visible on this version of the picture, but the larger version shows a bit of a shake from when I took this pic with almost a 10x zoom without a tripod. I was wonding if there's really any way to get rid of the shake. Probably not. But let me know if you know of any ways. :)

Nicely composed, with beautiful light, Amy.
The only antidote to camera shake that I know of (besides a tripod) is an image-stabilizing lens. You can hand-hold about 2 stops slower with one. Other than that, once the picture has been taken, it's too late!

I like this one Amy - the light is great and the shadows give a modelling effect that makes the image more three dimensional that makes it easier to imagine being there - the subtle blues of the sky against the orange of the rocks is really nice.
I might have taken a lower point of view.
To steady a camera in this environment I might have used a rock to brace it against but the old trick of breathing in - standing legs shoulder width apart and not breathing out until the photo is taken. I hardly if ever use a tripod - even for night shots.
best wishes
Kev

Hi Amy! You certainly caught some lovely light on these rocks! Composition is strong, too, with the largest area of the pile in the upper right. Nice work!

Hi. For someone that doesn't like landscape picture you found a good solution. Taking from them special parts! Good shot!

I really loke this picture! Greetings!
For experience I can tell you that the X10 is very much for hand holding your camera. That's the trouble with those "Super Zoom" models. I would suggest use a small tripod (that table models could even help if your camera is light), or put your camera on a rock or something to help keep it steady. Or avoid long zooms unless there is plenty of light.

A real riot of deep and rich colours, offset by a delicate blue sky. Really nice effect. I hesitated to click on keyryan's workshop, expecting a deeper saturation of the sky, but should have known better (sorry for doubting kev), as he did a fantastic job. I like both images, they wonderfully unique. Good stuff!
